I agree with the club ethos and the reading way for sure, I just hate hearing how we've been linked to all these players and then signing - no disrespect to them - rather boring players.

Yellowcoat If you look at the figures for last season only the top two clubs took over 60 million from the Premier League for finishing position, TV money etc. (excluding ticket sales and other income) so perhaps too many people rashly over estimate the income to be gained from promotion.

As I'm sure others have said before, the TV deal next season is a ridiculous jump in money coming into the club, so the ends could justify the means

Lol lol lol

Why look at him BM and scout him ? Did u think u would get him on the cheap

Reading manager Brian McDermott has revealed he does not expect to sign Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo due to his hefty asking price.

The Royals and Chelsea have both been linked with a move for the Spaniard this month, but it could become a one horse race for the attacking midfielder if McDermott’s comments are anything to go by.

Reading have been monitoring the progress of Aspas since helping the Spaniards gain promotion to La Liga last season, scoring an impressive 25 goals in 37 games.

The 25-year-old has continued to perform well for the newly promoted club in difficult circumstances as they lie just one point above the relegation places.

Expensive Deal

Celta Vigo understand that Aspas is crucial to their survival hopes this season and have allegedly slapped a £10million price tag on his head to try and scare potential suitors away.

“I would be surprised if anyone could do that deal. It’s an expensive deal and a difficult one for anyone to do,” McDermott told Sky Sports.

“I’ve seen him play, our scouts have seen him play and he has had a couple of really good seasons. We know him – but it’s a very difficult deal to do. Celta Vigo are a big club.

“The money that they are talking about on this player (Aspas) is a fortune. There would have to be some structuring to do on that – but we’ve never done a deal like that.

“The biggest deal that this club has done is £2.5million when we signed Emerse Fae and we sold him back for the same sort of money – the same with Greg Halford.”

Transfer Window

Royals fans still have something to look forward to in the January transfer window despite missing out on Aspas.

McDermott has revealed the club are still looking for more new faces to bring into the club to add to the arrivals of Stephen Kelly, Hope Akpan and Daniel Carrico.

“We have signed three, but we are still in the process of looking,” added the Reading boss.

“There are a lot of complications trying to sign a player as everyone knows, but if something comes our way, we have the finances and he wants to play here then we will do something. There is no doubt about that.”

^ The article is slightly confusing, what were our intentions with this player? Maybe he's doing a whole opposite day thing again, and we will sign him. All sounds a bit too turnip flavoured for my fluucid opinion de lá extrangulate. parfé me hearty, there be sugar aboard ye vessel o' damage done.

Shows how much ambition we got doesn't it

McDermott still trying to sign attacking midfielder, says he wants to add 2/3 more but says £10m fee for Iago Aspas is too high. #readingfc

IT'S NOT £10,000,000 !
He has a £8,300,000 RELEASE FEE** which is €9,908,000 ( which is being round up by the idiot journalists & then not converted from euro to sterling)

update:
**I reckon the release fee would be £8,376,940 making it a €10,000,000 with correct exchange rates **

BM isn't stupid. He tells the media what he wants them to report. He'd keep his mouth shut otherwise.

This deal might well be dead, for now - but talking to the media (Harry Redknapp-style) leaves our interest out there for Aspas to consider. All part of trying to do business. If this is currently the player's only opportunity of entering the Premier League, our interest might just get him thinking...

Don't be silly we will probably spend £83,000 on a lower league star soon!

As usual RFC underwhelm their fans in the transfer market again.

As usual, we do what we always do, so we are not underwhelmed, though you would not know that, as you are not a fan, you are a prick.

This club is probably worth approx £70-80m at present

In 6 months, that valuation could fall to £50m.

Why on earth would we spend £8.3m transfer, Probably a £10m contract at least on this guy? Do you seeeeee?

I just do not grasp how people think we could, or would sanction a deal like this?

It would be a different matter if this was our second season. But it isn't. We all know the financial stance the club has taken over the years and always will take as to not jeopardise the future of the club.

Get behind the team and the club and if we can finish strongly, next season maybe we will be signing players of this disgusting valuation :D

I don't think spending £8m on a single striker who is unproven in the premiership would be a wise choice.

The club are right to pull out of this deal; can't really afford the luxury of a new striker in the relegation battle when currently Pogrebnyak and Alf are producing goals.

Could well be a good player, possibly a Michu but then he could also turn out to be another Morientes.
