Team for Sheff Utd

by retro royal » 20 Jan 2013 11:37

I think it will be a reserve side, resting for Chelsea

Taylor
Cummings Gorks Morrison Shorey (if not rumours arnt true)
HRK (if fit) Carrico Karakan McCleary
Church Hunt

Subs Alfie, Pog, Gunter, Guthrie, Pearce, McAnuff, Akpan. (doh) we're try Leigertwood instead

Akpan is cup-tied.

I'd personally go with:

Federici
Kelly
Pearce (C)
Morrison
Shorey
McCleary
Karacan
Carrico
Robson-Kanu
Hunt
Le Fondre

I see Brian going 4-4-2 for this one.

===========Federici============

Gunter===Pearce===Morrinson===Shorey

McCleary====Carrico==Karacan==HRK (If fit)

========Hunt====Le Fondre=======

Same set up against Crawley with but with Carrico, Gunter and Shorey coming in!

It is important that Akpan and especially Carrico get more minutes under their belt as we will certainly need them if we have any injuries or suspensions. Carrico is way off PL match fitness so doubt he will play for more than an hour. We should rest Kebe completely as well as Guthrie and say Pearce. If McCarthy is fit I say rest Feds too.

Who cares if we go out of the cup. We are not going to win it anyway. We need to concentrate on the league and February will be a huge month. See relegation thread in the team,

Firstly remember than Akpan is cup-tied.

Might as well go 4-4-2

Would have unchanged goalkeeper and defence.
Chance to rest McAnuff and Kebe.
Carrico needs game time and, as Leigertwood actually had his first good game of the season yesterday, I reckon we should keep him in as to not disrupt this.
Pog should also be rested because he really needs it.

So the team would be:

-----------------Federici---------------
--Kelly---Marriappa---Pearce----Harte-----
--HRK---Carrico--Leigertwood--McCleary--
-----------Le Fondre---Hunt----------------

Subs: Taylor, Gunter, Morrison, Karacan, McAnuff, Church, Pog

-Akpan is cup tied.
-McCarthy is supposedly out for most of the season
-"Who cares if we go out of the cup. We are not going to win it anyway." We might do because there have been some shocking teams that have made the final/ won it. With a bit of luck in the draw and some momentum we have half a chance!

Agreed

Federici
Gunter*, Morrison, Pearce, Shorey
McCleary, Karacan, Guthrie, Robson-Kanu
Hunt, Le Fondre.

* or Cummings - doesn't really matter.

I think it'll take a while longer to get Carrico up to fitness and I don't think a winter game against League One thugs is a good one to give him more pitch time. I'd like to keep Legs as fresh as possible, so save him for Chelsea (unless Carrico is actually fit). Give the back up wingers a chance to do some damage, providing they're fit, otherwise McAnuff and Kebe as usual.

We never make overhaul changes. Taylor wont get a look in, nor will Gorkss or Church.

The cup has already helped us gain much needed confidence, and momentum. I expect something more like this:

=============================== FEDERICI ===============================

KELLY ============= PEARCE ================== MORRISON ========== HARTE

ROBSON-KANU ============ CARRICO ===== KARACAN =============== MCANUFF

========================== HUNT ======= LE FONDRE ======================

4-4-2. We are against lower league opposition, we should be on the front foot.

Federici

Kelly
Pearce
Morrison
Shorey (If "fit")

McCleary- to rest our 2nd main asset Kebe.
Carrico
Karacan
HRK (If fit)

Le Fondre
Hunt

Danny Wilson - "There is a nervousness about us at the moment in about three or four areas and whether that is the pressure that is on us I don't know. We have to play through it and get on the ball and play to our strengths. Unfortunately there are one or two who are struggling at the minute, I have to say that."

They're there for the taking.

--------------Federici--------------
Kelly Morrison Mariappa Shorey
-------------Carrico----------------
McCleary----------------------HRK
-----------------Guthrie-----------
-----------ALF---------Hunt-------

Think it's important to get Morrison back in the first team picture after being so impressive when he had a run in the team.

I would be much happier if there was a league match instead of a cup tie next weekend.

I'd like us to make as few changes as possible from the start. McAnuff and Pog could do with a rest and Kebe is not worth risking.

Federici; Kelly, Pearce, Mariappa, Harte; McCleary, Leigertwood, Carrico, Guthrie, HRK; Roberts/Hunt (I have no idea as to the extent of Roberts' "injury")
Subs: S. Taylor, Morrison, Gunter, Karacan, D'Ath, Obita, Le Fondre

Would like to see little duplication on the bench, no point naming two full backs or both Karacan and Tabb, or Gunnarsson. D'Ath and Obita aren't exactly untested at this level.

Le Fondre will definitely start. Brian will be finding it hard to justify leaving him out with this 4-5-1 system and his current form, so he'll go 4-4-2 for the cup and give him 90 minutes.
