Akpan looked a bit out of his depth, but it was to be expected. Clearly the best thing he did was the whiff that fell to ALF, but he wasn't awful in the midfield. Made a few tidy passes and seemed willing to accept a role rather than trying to do it all at once. Hope Hope continues to improve, but I'm not sure I want to see all that much of him this year. These matches are too important to trust to a kid unless he's really showing he's ready.

anR It may have been mentioned already, but the way Gooding and Dellor described his assist couldn't have been more of a contrast to how the commentators on MOTD described his 'lay off'. I thought he did though, even though it may have seemed he didn't mean it.

Who said what? MOTD rightly took the mick out of it. I think it was Linekar who sarcastically said "Great pass!"

It's great that it sult in a goal but that's two debuts and two embarrassing air shots in the space of a week.

FFS! Is that what 'fans' do nowadays? Literally picking apart every single mistake.
He had a wild swing at Kebe's knock down, not what i'd call an easy chance by any means. Fortunately Le Fondre was there to bury it. I thought he covered a lot of ground yesterday and used the ball well most of the time, not a bad debut for a young lad.
Pogrebyak also skied one, it's what happens in real life, if not in FIFA.

That's fair. You just don't tend to see too many air shots in the Premiership, but if we can keep it up perhaps it'll be another field in the stats before long.

So not actually out of his depth at all?

Funny how different people see different things. I thought he looked composed and pretty much at home.

I get a little excited sometimes when playing FIFA and hold the button down too long.

Akpan clearly didn't mean it as a lay off. I caught the build up on video and it was a fortunate shank that Alf was able to deal with.

It was a discussion point that AnR bought up. As winner died today do I need to quote his immortal phrase.
Either way we scored from it.

Very encouraging start; looks composed on the ball and an excellent passer. Great job tonight

Word of caution though; could be too early to throw him straight into the starting 11 - it'll definitely be a steep learning curve from League 1 and we as fans probably don't see that so much when he gets 20 minutes, coming on when we have nothing to lose. Also want to keep his fearlessness; start him and he has a bad game and we could lose that.
