Injuries allowing, it'll be pretty much exactly the same side that took on Crawley. Only change really will be if Brian thinks Carrico is fit enough to be involved.

-----------------------Federici----------------------
Cummings------Morrison---Pearce-------Shorey
----------------------Carriço------------------------
-----------Karacan-----------Leigertwood----------
McCleary-----------------------------Robson-Kanu
----------------------Alfie----------------------------

Quite like to see us try the 4-5-1 with Alfie starting, not to hold up play, but to move with the speed of the game and be the man in the box.......

Would be happy with Kelly, Gunter or Cummings in, Pearce or Mariappa and if Carriço can't or doesn't play then Hunt alongside ALF from the off.

Yeah, I think ALF's capable of it, but it would be good to see him get a go in a slightly easier match.

Stick with 4-5-1. The more we practice this formation, the better we will get at it.

Up to a point - you'd need to play somewhat differently if you had ALF up front rather than Pog.

Good point. Worth trying him out wide, cutting inside on the attack to make the 2 up front but moving outside when on the defence?

Convoluted way of crowbarring him into the team.

Not sure if ALF has what it takes to play as a lone striker to be honest. Great finisher and will score lots with support up top, but doesn't have the strength to hold up, height to win headers or pace to run past defenders.

Stick him in a 4-4-2.

Not the same as Pog can, but I think he's actually surprisingly strong and quick with an excellent touch to control the ball. He'd need players getting to nearer him quicker and ball played to feet rather than head / chest. But I think he might be able to do it. Worth trying in a low risk game, seeing as Roberts is injured and about as likely to score as Federici. We don't exactly have a workable back up to Pog for the role.

I would like to see Leigertwood rested for this game. He had one week off with the minor knock and looked much better when he came back. Go with a 4-4-2 with Jem and Carrico in the midfield. Neither played against the Toon and could prolly use the playing time.

Carrico needs a full 90 in my view; he'll at least be against a team who are up for it, unlike in the reserves.

If Morrisson is returning from injury, give him a start. Kelly another start as he is regaining fitness and trying to get to know the team. Can see the logic of starting Alf; he deserves one. But imagine if he got injured in the FA Cup. Rest Kebe, give Karacan a run out, HRK and McCleary on the wings. So I'd go:

Feds
Kelly Mariappa Morrisson Harte/Shorey
McCleary Karacan Carrico HRK
Hunt Alf

Definitely capable of winning.

I like the rationale behind Alf. Evidently he doesn't have the height, strength or power. But he certainly has enough pace, movement and I believe he has a better touch than Pog.

Play Church. He is a league one player as some claim on here.... No point paying him to play in the reserves...

He couldn't hit a barn door in L1 or L2 when on loan. I think you're being too kind.
