You can, but via Euston. Leaves Manchester Piccadilly at 8.35. Doesn't get to Reading until 1 in the morning though, which is a bit of a bastard.

Won't take until 1am as you will make the last fast train from Paddington.

It'll be better watching it on the telly anyway.

I was caught out on this years ago and ended up getting a Megabus back to the Big Smoke. It was shit. I don't know why they don't put slightly later trains from a big city like Manchester to London.

Hotel booked, ready for my 21st weekend!

Do people think we will sell out, and when will tickets go on sale in peoples opinions?

I don't think it will be too hard to get tickets based on previous experience.

You'd think it would warrant putting a special train on, just to cater for all the ManU fans wishing to make their way home!

Thinking about going to this. Driving up on Saturday and maybe staying overnight.

I am confident I can get a ticket but not sure about my friend who doesn't have many points - only about 250.

Network Rail needs to maintain the tracks, signalling, and associated infrastructure, and Saturday night is the quietest time of the week, so most services shut down early and the tracks are handed over to the engineers.

Mondays to Fridays the last Manchester - Euston service departs Piccadilly at 21:15, arriving Euston 23:48
Saturdays it departs 20:35, arriving Euston 23:02
Sundays it departs 20:55, arriving Euston 23:49

There is no great commercial demand for later trains from Manchester to London arriving after midnight.

Once upon a time trains were run as a pubic service on the understanding that busier times ie rush hour would subsidise the quieter times. I guess there's no incentive now with these cowboy operators.

Anyway the service too and from Leeds seems to run fairly late.

They still do, but who really wants to travel from Manchester to London at 9pm on a Saturday night? Weekday yes, for businessmen and people going away for the weekend, and Sunday for people returning home, but Saturday night intercity trains are a massive waste of resources.

Ok so why is it most other cities run services? Clearly their is a demand. Leeds has an extensive timetable.

According to NRE, last train from Leeds to KIngs-X tomorrow night leaves at 20:05. :|
