What we could sell a player for, and what we would sell a player for are two completely different things though.

I'm seeing people saying £2m for Federici, £2m for Kebe, £500k for Leigertwood, but I honestly don't think we'd accept a bid for any of those players at those prices. Seems a bit pointless to me speculating what we could receive.

^ this. Plus if the likes of Doyle went for £5m then you can expect that or more for Le Fondre. Kebe is another that could go for a similar fee, but everyone has their own opinion. I'm hoping we don't find out any time soon..

Agreed Obita has lots of potential but potential has no real value until proven. In my opinion he has yet to prove himself, so has no transfer value until he does.

That's not true at all. You might argue that it should be, but big fees are paid for "potential" all the time. Ever heard of Patrick Bamford, for a fairly recent example?

No - you are right of course.

In fact it's pointless speculating who might play in the next game, what the score will be, will the ref do a good job, how many points we need to avoid relegation, who we might get in the transfer window.

It's all pointless so we may as well just shut down the board altogether.

Or - we coud just speculate, because it's vaguely interesting and fun to compare our squad to others.

Most interesting for me is there seems to be a general thought here that the squad net value is around 25-30 million. Surely 2006 team value was nearly double that? Anyone clever able to do the maths?

Fair point, I don't usually partake in those threads either, so I must differ from what I find interesting.

Problem is players don't really have a value as such in football, all they have is a sale value. This is determined by a lot of factors, e.g. age, contract, potential, and will constantly change. That's why I feel a debate about someone's value is a little needless. We sold Kitson for £5.5mil, Mills for £5mil, well above what people would value them at. The market in January is particularly inflated, so I think it would take bids in excess of £5mil for the likes of Federici, Karacan, Kebe, Le Fondre and Pog. Come the summer, if we're in the Championship, bids of £3-4mil would probably be sufficient.

I don't know anything about this and I can't really be bothered to read all of the above, but just want to throw in that Le Fondre, as a young English striker with proven goalscoring ability, wouldn't go for less than £5m in my opinion.

Handsome Man Alfie's sock is worth more han £300,000,

First signs of McD playing the game on this? He obviously knows that if his player keeps on scoring the way he is there'll be interest from bigger clubs, and that Le Fondre's not particularly happy with the super-sub tag. Never too early to start tapping up the value.

They are all worth what-ever someone is willing to pay for them, nothing more.

Pretty reasonable. Remembering that this is without the new signings, that would come to £40.65m

Actually.... Let's write that out properly.

£40,650,000 . Let alone wages.

Football is blooming crazy. It's only when you consider that these players are that amount in assets to the club how insane it all is. Those on here who want huge investment in the club, please look at those numbers and when we say flippantly "he'd only cost a couple of million" think how many years of your own wages it would take you to buy that one player.

Glad I don't run a football club.

How does Mariappa lose value since joining us? If anything his stock has risen.
