BR2 I would love if it if we made this signing just for the lol @ melonhead and his mates who think the club will do a Portsmouth if we spend more than £300,000 on a player.

They'll have an even bigger lol @ you if we spend £8 million and then do a Portsmouth next season.

id imagine some bloke called BR2 on an internet forum would not even enter my head if we went out of business.
luckily due to sound financial management there is no chance of that at the minute

so to you having deep pockets means -must spend what i want them to?

clearly his pockets are deeper than JMs who had stopped spending anything.
and clearly we are in no danger of going under, precisely because weve not gone over board

Amongst the trillions of barely readable posts your thrust has always been that there is not enough money to spend on transfers in excess of £5 million and you have put forward the idea that because the club is so well run this wouldn't happen blah, blah, blah.
I was interested in your reaction to the possibility that we might spend £8 million on one player, and that a winger when we already have four of them.

BTW I won't take exception to your "spaz"-being blind in one eye probably doesn't quite qualify me yet but if the other one goes do you think I will?

The issue for me is that Anton is supposed to be able to take us to the "next level", so far he has taken us to the next level from where we currently were with Madjeski, but no further than were he he'd previously got us.

IF we are bidding 8m for Ince, (it seems very unlikely we would pay for this all in one go, and I imagine it has numerous clauses attached) I would assume that we think that it is a worthwhile investment.
IF that is the case, I would certainly take BMD's valuation of the player over most people on this forum.

Also there is the possibly that AZ may be bankrolling a high profile player (especially if the Arseshavings/ Asspass deals fell through which had his name all over it) as a gamble to keep us in the prem, I'm sure the club is worth more than 8m to him in the PL than the Championship.

Yes, but he didn't have a side like the one we came up with in 05/06 to build on.

We've never had a players of the status of Pog/Carrico before. Not to mention the work going on behind the scenes RE: training ground/academy. I'd argue that he is taking us to a level beyond the one we were at 5/6 years ago, even if that's not reflected in league position at the moment.

Even if it's not reflected now (seriously it's been less than a year)

With good management it will be reflected in the long term.

So you're saying our owner would abandon us if we ever wound up in a rough financial position then?

Thats what Tony Fernandez said yesterday mwhaha!

I agree that there is a lot of investment that goes on in the infrastructure at the club that is not always apparent to us fans, but just once in a while it sould be nice to see the same level of investment in the playing squad. I dont want to get into an argument about risking the future of the club and all that, that's obviously not what im suggesting. However 1-2 real quality proven at this level players would go some way in my opinion to progressing the playing side of things.

Im aware that Ince is not proven at this level so therefore he would not fit the above description, I have put this here as thats where the discussion arose.

good god man.this is your problem. stop making stuff up.

never said said anything of the sort.
never said it wouldnt happen at all. & perfectly happy to pay 8, 10, 20 million quid if we can afford it, think the player is worth it, and it will improve our team.
spending that much if those things arent true is what im not going to go along with.
and im just not going to complain if it doesnt happen, & understand that our budget is lower than most other clubs in this league.

as for being a winger, i agree we have 4, and they are all quite good. if the club think this guy is much better, then im happy with that. but id hope hes being brought in as a creative/attacking midfielder

Or, more likely to replace Jobi who seems destined to spend the rest of the season as CAM....?

It's a good way to piss Rodgers off as it will mean Liverpool will almost certainly have to pay more to get him now.

a big +1 from me.

As to actually signing him, can't see it happening.

It's a valid concern, and I think we'd all like to talented players come to the club (regardless of price). The money does seem to be there though if the management deem it to be the right investment (e.g. Zaha, Ince etc.), so I'm not sure this is a criticism that can be levelled at the new owner.

At least when the money is spent though, which seems likely atm, we'll know that it's a financially sensible investment.

It certainly appears to me that we're on a different level in terms of financial muscle and ambition to what we have been at any point during SJM's reign.

Replying to melonhead.
Amongst your many (over 19,000) posts you seem to have forgotten what you have posted previously in your jumbled, confused and confusing way.
You have adopted a stance of Armageddon being upon us if the club spends more than trivial amounts on transfers and now you are advocating that the club should spend money .
I hope the club and it's management have a clearer view of the way forward than you have.
