blueroyals This is the end of Church and Roberts Reading careers then. Will obviously be 4th choice though so nothing to get excited about.

How old is he?

Reading have moved quickly for Blackman to beat Crystal Palace to his signature after the Championship club made a bid for the highly-rated forward.

Sheffield United were reluctant to lose Blackman, but they have now accepted Reading's offer for the 23-year-old.

Blackman caught the eye during United's clash with Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday and Royals boss Brian McDermott has moved to bring him in to bolster his attacking options.

Blackman has impressed for Sheffield United this season since his arrival from Blackburn last summer, scoring 14 goals so far.

Blackman is expected to sign a four-and-a-half year deal at the Madejski Stadium once he undergoes a medical.

The striker will become Reading's fourth signing of this transfer window following the captures of Stephen Kelly, Hope Akpan and Daniel Carrico.

If he is as good as the other Blackman (Ron) that played for reading, a great signing

Michael Meaker Are we going to sign a player from every team that we play in the FA Cup?! (Man United next :D) I hope that we are tracking these guys, rather than signing players based on one performance against us, but I seem to remember that United signed Ronaldo after he played well against them - that turned out alright....

I agree with most other posters in that he looked like their best player on Saturday. He seemed quite mobile too and looked like he could play up front, on either wing or behind a front man.

Didn't we sign Krommheer and van der Kwaak (sp?) following good performances in friendly games we played against them?

Really dont see why we are in for him honestly...half of his goals are from the penalty spot...our activity this window has really confused me. Some signings look like were preparing for life in the championship again and others look like we want to stay.

He was the only threatening player I saw for Sheff Utd at least, but wasn't entirely sure what his position was. Can't imagine we're signing him as another winger somehow, unless someones off.

Not sure really why we are in for him, he would be fifth striker behind Pog, Alf, Roberts and Hunt for me. So unless Hunt is being sold or leaving in the summer I don't know why we are bothering.

Lets be honest about this, he isnt the player to set the world on fire but he isnt an awful singing. he played well againasnt us at the weekend and gave shorey a lot problems. he can play outiwde upfront and in the hole behind (something we need) he may not be ready and if he isnt itd still win win, if we go down hell be a big lpayer for us next season if we stay up he may improve or at worse we can seel hm on with minimal loss on 1mil.

If he is to play "in the hole" that could be useful.

Do we have scouts? Or do we just look at Div 1 players that appear against us in the cup????

Considered opinion in Y24 at half time on Saturday was that he was the only Blades player of note (apart from TSF of course!).
