Early, but looking like good business so far. Credit where it's evidently due - well done NH and BMcD.

MmmMonsterMunch Don't mean to be rude but you are coming across as a bit of a know it all bell picking out everyone's posts. I don't see who made you judge & jury on all things RFC related.

I don't sensor the sh*t people post on here but having become very sick of having to wade through it all just to find a few nuggets of informed opinion, WTF shouldn't I expose it for what is...........................utter nonsense.

If you wish to slag off players you've never seen kick a ball, expect to be made to look rather stupid on a regular basis.

Again - who are you to judge on 'informed opinion'? I agree about Akpan FTR but just playing devils advocate here. If you don't like others opinions, then you should probably fcuk off & not post on a forum. I wouldn't usually care but lots of the threads are full up with your superior rubbish i.e. trying to single people out and it's pretty tedious.

The point is there was nothing "informed" about these opinions, just Grade "A" twats being "disgusted" because we'd spent 300k on a player from Crawley.

Expect more of my "superior" rubbish in response to the utter sh*te posted by others that I find more than tedious.

Naturally, the option to fcuk off and post elsewhere applies to everyone including you.

To be fair us "doubters" (at the time) weren't sure if Akpan was going to be able to provide significant help to keep us up this season, and were not dismissing him as a player. Most of our lower league buys take time to adjust to the style and pace of play in the higher divisions, if they ever can. I was very impressed with his first appearance but I was worried about a few lazy passes he made, the type he could get away with at Crawley Town but not in the PL. It appeared he had all the tools to play at this level if he could adjust to the pace of play. Well with each passing appearance he has shown that not only is he able to adjust to this level of play it appears he is comfortable with it. As impressed as I was with his 2 assists against Chelsea I was blown away with how good he looked today. Great bit of business getting Hope in...they don't usually come good at once but this time it appears it has.

Ian Royal I'm not saying he won't be used, but I can't see him making a big impact in our relegation fight.

If he comes in, and from what I've heard from Crawley fans he could play at our level as he is, then his composure and passing could actually make all the difference by improving our ball retention and keeping the pressure off the defence for longer periods. He may not be a significantly better player but he could still make a big impact on our season.

So, you agree with yourself. Well done you for not being a schizophrenic .

If Carico plays to his potential we could have a pretty good midfield.

Who? I do not remember anyone complaining about signing Akpan at all.
You'll have to come up with some quotes to substantiate that.

Exactly.

maffff Brilliant. Very impressed.

Agree, he was a cut above yesterday. Akpan closed down, put his foot in, and showed a range of passing we've been missing. Absolute quality signing!

Quite how Leigertwood is in that side ahead of Karacan though I don't know.

Very different players, that's why. Leigertwood is in there to break up play and try to win back the ball. Karacan is better on the ball, but not as good at the other stuff.

plus oneing yourself? How crass :P

Fook me he's stepped up to the plate quickly! And shown a lot more in his last 2 appearances than he did against us or at Newcastle. Still early days in whether he can sustain it or not, Sunderland were piss poor at times yesterday. But I'll happily take this on the chin.

I'm a little worried that we have too many midfielders to keep them all happy with enough games. HRK, Carrico and Karacan are surely going to struggle for games.

TBH if HRK left I wouldn't be too worried.

Carrico and Akpan with Karacan snapping at their heels.

The future looks bright!

The reason Leigertwood saw more of the ball than any other player yesterday was because he stopped Sunderland playing through the middle almost single handedly. He was always really well positioned and broke up play brilliantly. Yes, he has got to improve his passing, if he wants to be a guaranteed regular starter for us once Carrico is fit; but I thought he was one of the standout performers yesterday.

Akpan played really well, but he's very raw. There were a few occasions where he hoofed the ball 20 feet in the air unnecessarily and whilst he was ready to put a foot in, he didn't make too many tackles. But that's nit picking, for a full PL debut, he was very good.

Tackling isn't his strongest ability but I am impressed so far with his vision and confidence. He doesn't flap that much and has stepped in seamlessly. It was interesting that BM put him in the starting line up but it didn't unnerve him and is a massive confidence boost for the man.
