But only if Newcastle didn't sew it up properly first.

Let's just be glad he's a better negotiator than he was a keeper.

Royal Rother It's not hard to imagine that, if QPR had been interested in Hope Akpan, Crawley would have got double the fee they did from us.

Reputation counts for a lot.

It's not hard to imagine that Hammond is already thinking how much Hope, Fondre etc are worth now....
The problem with other clubs knowing that Reading will not pay "silly" prices, is that it is not worth their bother putting to much effort into selling to Reading. With the likes of QPR they might take their interest more seriously. Better of course to be this way, but then you have to accept players "slipping through" only because of a minor gap.

Reading FC Myth No 2874 - Nicky Hammond was a shit keeper.

He was a brilliant , but injury plagued keeper.

Well we didn't really see Hammond enough in a RFC green jersey to be able to properly judge his goal keeping prowess. But apparantly the Swindon fans used to call him dropsy Hammond. So I don't know what to make of that.

surely you only need to have seen the games he did play in a green jersey to assess how good he was for us.

Hammond v Cardiff City, FA Cup replay at Elm Park, remains the best goalkeeping display I have seen live, by some distance.

Must have been the day the Championship Manager assessor was there as he was the dogs bollocks in my old 95/96(?) version. As opposed to just bollocks.

"Reading's 'keeper Simon Sheppard, receiving alot of criticism this season for his performances (and not totally unjustifiably I'm sorry to say), picked this game, of *all* games, to have the match of his life. In the tenth minute he was called into action to collect from a Joachim effort after a through-ball from Roberts into space"

This was extended just after McDermott signed his new deal.

You never saw Shaka Hislop play?
Or Steve Francis' heroics against Coventry in the Simod Cup semi-final?
He was good that game, but not the best IMHO.

See the TSI policies and promises thread. - and my quote from the summer.... and it was 3 years in the summer? - so that takes us to 2015.

Hammond was an average keeper but a better F.Director. I have to apologise for starting this thread as I was concerned that we may have been missing targets due to an unrealistic attitude to buying players in the premiership. Our attempts to get Siggy probably show that we are serious about staying in this division. Just hope our failure to get the right players in at the beginning doesnt mean its too late. If Pog gets injured we are in trouble as we have no-one to play that role now unless Blackman can step up - a big ask though! Long may Hammond stay!
