All the fans I know agree don't dispute that the club benefited through cheating from its previous owners. But what would you like them to do now - say "Yes, it's a fair cop, guv'nor, we don't deserve to exist any more, we'll just walk away from the club we've supported all our lives"?

The big problems is that the owners who did the damage have now fucked off - so who are you actually punishing? Or did you want the supporters not to cheer or celebrate when their club won things - even if it was with money they shouldn't have had?

I think it's the fact that they went along the same path before the ink was dry on the first CVA that riles a lot of us. No sooner had Chanrai's pet administrator said the days of overspending were gone - minutes after local businesses and UK taxpayers had to accept 20p in the pound - they signed Kitson and Lawrence on 20K per week. In the same league, Reading could barely afford a signing let alone salaries on this scale. Then you factor in the charities that had their money stolen and the never-to-materialise promise from Chainrai to pay all creditors owed 2K or less in full after the first CVA and you get a feeling that this club is almost beyond salvation. Rotten to the core. And isn't this their third admin in 15 years? How many more lives do they deserve?

I don't wish any team to go out of business, but I make an exception for Portsmouth. In any other business, they would have gone or been forced to compete on a level nowhere near the years before admin. For the general good of football, someone needs to be made an example of, and for me at least, Portsmouth's crimes outweigh any tangible benefit to keeping them in the league.

Royal Monk This from another forum ....

Mr Blackmore please consider this.... you are correct that from a non-footballing perspective the Football Creditors Rule is unfair and when a business fails, administrators and liquidators should be able to ensure all creditors get an equal share of any monies offered by purchasers as part of the CVA.

But the football creditors rule has to remain until clubs cannot be trusted to only buy and pay players wages that are sustainable and ensure a fair competition... in Portsmouth's case they have already diluted the amount owed to players, and thus shows they gained an unfair competitive advantage and did not even have to pay for it - how can this be fair? How can it be justified without considerable punishment? How will you stop clubs from risking all if they know that when it comes down to it, a CVA of 0.2 p in pound will get them out the hole and any success achieved along the way will be in the record books no matter how tarnished it is? Come on, you tell me?

The only reason why this is now rearing its head again, is because it appears the PST can't afford the agreed repayment or schedule, already substantially reduced through compromise agreements with players... The club have cheated the game, cheated the creditors... and yet no one points out the simple facts this case. £120mil of debt from administration 3 years ago, which after football creditors paid was diluted to 20mil and not a penny paid..... second Admin in 2 years £68 mil of debt, likely to be diluted to 12 mil or so if the court agree to PFKs valuation of fratton at 3 mil.... now the PST want to further change the terms on the compromise agreements with players.... and quite rightly the PFA is defending its members - yet fans of that club refuse to accept that the club has in anyway benefitted on the field through this cheating... You and other Journo's need to wake up and see what this is really about and its not rivalry

Its the cheating and implication for football that makes fans angry. Its the rivalry that makes us now laugh at their predicament and enjoy the schardenfreude - you would do well to note the difference.

All the fans I know agree don't dispute that the club benefited through cheating from its previous owners. But what would you like them to do now - say "Yes, it's a fair cop, guv'nor, we don't deserve to exist any more, we'll just walk away from the club we've supported all our lives"?

I expect them to have the club they support liquidated, start a new club and enjoy rising like a phoenix from teh flames through the lower leagues with a real sense of achievement, integrity and purpose.

Yeah until a foreign owner with deep pockets comes along to take them the final step to the premier league and the cycle begins again.

It's a bit like our dear sir John said he is only a multimillionaire, the premier league requires a billionaire investor.

If they have to start a phoenix club I don't think we have to worry about that for at least a decade, if not 20 years.

True but getting through the pyramid and back in the league should only take four or five years depending on their starting point. If Aldershit can work their way through on crowds of 2 or 3000 you would have thought they will get at least double that which would make them able to buy the best players at each level and be a big draw for the best young non league players, paying the best wages.

They would rise quite quickly at least to the championship I think...probably within 10 years.

Getting into the league is tricky. Once they hit League One, which I think they'd struggle to do inside 10 years (assuming they start a couple of tiers below conference south, I think it then becomes quite hard to out buy teams because it's littered with decent sized clubs who've been at the top or near it already. And they'll probably be less tempting as a buy than many of those.

The fairplay rules already apply in the bottom 2 divisions so they wouldnt be able to buy their way out of them even if they had the money

You only have to look at a club like Bradford to see decent sized clubs can get stuck in league 2. Their crowds only reached 20k during the years they were overspending 11-15k is more of the 'hardcore' certainly not a huge club that would walk back up the leagues. Clubs like Leeds, Nottingham Forrest and both Sheffield clubs are much bigger clubs and they find it hard enough to get free of league one.

I take your point but coming back and with the momentum of lots of back to back promotions I could easily see them getting to League 1 / Championship level in rapid time. Stevenage have done ok, Fleetwood have risen rapidly too.

Stevenage took 30 years to achieve entry to the Football League (although that would've been quicker but for being refused entry once before)
Fleetwood took c10 years - which is quite a reasonable rise.

If they are the benchmark then we won't see the south coast cheats for more than a decade

Bye, bye and turn the lights off on your way out

They would if they got good crowds.

That depends largely on whether they'd still be at Fratton Park or not.

Pompey charge Carlisle £20 to park the team bus

You cannot make stuff like this up, to go from paying Utaka £60k a week to charging a League One side £20 to park after a 350 mile journey.

Pathetic excuse for a football club.

According to Greg Abbott it was the owners of the Car Park who charged them £20 not Portsmuff.

The point being you'd normally expect the home team to cough up the expense of hosting their opponents, surely?

Does anyone know the regulations concerning the 10 point deduction ?
When does it become applicable to next season rather than this ?

In answer to your seperate question, yes you would expect them to pay it.
