Quite often the Madejski crowd struggles to get behind the team in a supportive manner. I know motivational booing worked on Shane Long, but it's not for everyone.

With not much to cheer, I have been trying to think of things we can actually do to encourage the team in a positive way - and thought of the fun thing where you say 'olé' or 'wahey' (as some people seem to shout) whenever the team is in control of a match, and you cheer every successful pass.

Now, although we may not control the match from the very start, I think it would make a huge, positive, impact on the atmosphere, and thus the players, if we Oléed at every successfully completed pass. It would, no doubt, show the players that we do appreciate it when they get things right, and hopefully give them the confidence to push on and win the game on Saturday.

So, who's with me? Who else is going to stand up and be counted on saturday and cheer every successful pass?

I, for one, think this could turn our season around if we all put in our best effort.

I like the way this could work and be positive if we do pass the ball well, and work a la motivational booing by being obviously sarcastic when our passing is generally poor. As usual.

This wont boy on the players...it will sound massivly sarcastic. Stupid idea. Maybe if we had some songs that last longer than 5 seconds we could create an atmosphere

The players need to trigger off the fans, maybe its a match saving block, a jinking run, an excellent cross, a solid attempt on goal or simply passion. But until the players cause a reaction the stadium will probably be a pessimistic place where the fans will be getting on the players backs.

Our players have lacked BITE all season (expect Pearce and maybe Roberts), the reality is we need our players surrounding the ref, diving and basically be nasty cheating oxf*rd to get anything. It sounds terrible but we need to see more of it because that's the reality of the PL and our situation.

We need to start with a tempo at least 100mph to prevent them getting an early foothold or any early initiative.

One thing we can take confidence in, is our battling to the end. Hopefully Clarke plays because he is oxf*rd shit! Makes Gorkss look like a world beater.

Was thinking more of him sitting in the West Stand, or on a bucket in the tunnel or wherever Brian has him, his face crumpled like Jack Nicholson taking a dump, as 10,000 shout "ole" when Leigertwood successfully prods the ball 1 yard to Pearce.

Really? I agree we need to get behind them more but I'm not sure that this is the best way to do it. I think it sounds quite ironic, almost like were sarcastically applauding them as they finally complete a string of passes (which is probably the case). Could be a good thing though, as they realize that is what we want to see more of.

I couldn't disagree with you more. It's a two way street. You can't complain about the players' lack of fight, then sit in your seat and pick your arse whilst you wait for the United score to pop up on your phone. That the reason the majority of Reading fans are so Oxford.

More than ever, we need to get behind the players and create an atmosphere that motivates them and intimidates the opposition. The majority of Reading fans at home games have been shite all season and it attitudes like yours that perpetuate it.

Great post rumpole but I don't think it's a good idea.

Our team is so bad at stringing passes together it'll only show it up and put them under more pressure.

And if anything it will sound sarcastic. I.e. yay we've managed a pass!

It works well when you're 3-0 up, controlling a game, taking the p+Ss, and then you cheer every pass, but for a team with relegation pressure, struggling to string passes together it will sound nothing other than sarcastic.

Love the sentiment though. Tweak the idea a bit maybe?
