hes not signed a contract all season.
during this period he has been played for periods, and not played for periods.
therefore there is no correlation between not signing, and not playing.

literally. i have actually done the statistical tests

BR2 Quite prepared to be proven wrong in the future but I don't think he is actually that good.
As I see it he gets brushed aside fairly easily (Fellaini,Jerome etc.) and he lacks pace although to his credit he does look to be an organiser although that is difficult to judge because of playing in the second worst defence in the Premier League.

His head appears to have been turned by being called up by a 3rd rate international side, one that Ian Harte thinks he should be playing for which says it all really.
Just because he grits his teeth and does the fist waving at the end of a game seems to have convinced people that he is Reading-till-he-dies whereas he is probably just your normal greedy self-interested modern day footballer.
The club obviously doesn't rate him as highly as he rates himself so let him go to Millwall or Ipswich and let us "move on".

He's 24. He's still young and nowhere near his prime. He has come along way for his age and I think he is a good player that could be a GREAT player.

The club should do their best to keep him, the manager should stop the pig-headedness and admit we can't do without him.

He's not been totally frozen out no.

He started the season (partly for continuity maybe?) when contract discussions were still very early and the club didn't see it as an issue.

He was bought back into the side when Morrison got injured after he'd basically dropped to 4th choice. When Morrison got injured Gorkss came back in, looked awful and they had to turn to Pearce.

When Morrison came back to fitness McDermott waited for the first excuse to drop him depsite our decent form with him in the side during his run of games. It doesn't quite add up, but then a lot of McDermotts decisions haven't this season.

I think there's been some pressure to not play him because of the contract situation. It's not to the extent that he isn't allowed to play, just that it's an influence that gives other players the nod over him when there is anywhere near a marginal decision.

and of course, if he (Pearce) is going (as seems likely) then giving Morrisson game time is important

Just throwing this out there - better or worse than Matt Mills at the same age?

Better attitude.
Similar passion for the game / better for the club.
Better 'leadership' and organisation of the back four. Less blaming of others.
Worse pace.
Better decision making.
Not quite as strong in the last gasp tackle.
Slightly better passing
Similar (maybe slightly less) of a threat from set pieces.

Not a huge amount in it, apart from the fact Mills was a dick. If he hadn't severed relationships with the fans and his development had continued (head appears completely gone) I'd have him back alongside Mariappa.

That's a very good assessment, although i'd put Pearce slightly ahead on the threat from set pieces.

Personally I always feel that Pearce should do a lot better from attacking set pieces.

Personally think fans should be more accepting of dicks.

True, his subsequent career has been brilliant but for me at Reading, Mills always looked that little step above the rest of the defence.

Apart from the Swansea horror show Mills and Khizanishvili were a class centre back pairing.

I loved Matt Mills, the bullet header and clearance off the line against Leicester summed him up for me.

Mills - Premier League quality physical attributes. League Two mental attributes.
Pearce - Premier League quality mental attributes. Championship quality physical attributes.

Pearce wins every time.

agreed, I also liked the fact that anyone who could break into a brisk walk could turn him and head on towards our goal, plus also if I'd done that in the penalty area he'd bring me down with the inevitable consequences. Great player

You can see why he doesn't want to sign a new deal

A Prem club or one coming up to the Prem at end of season will snap him up. Mark my words. And I don't blame him. This club has had no real ambition this season, despite the sound bites thrown at us. We didn't spend properly with whatever money we had and we've paid the price.

He was at fault for the second goal today, as the first ball was played in he was picking his nose (fact) and let the first shot come in unopposed!
