mr_number You've said that we've shown no appetite for big money signings, and then highlighted two cases where tried to make big money signings.

I think he was saying he doesn't believe those stories/bids had intent.

Based on "The Reading Way" the most innocent interpretation could be that the size and proximity to the end of the transfer window they looked completely out of character with this seasons previous dealings.

I think we can file those bids with those supposedly made for Lescott,Cahill,O'Neill and Taylor.

Despite the fact that AVB confirmed we made the bids?

With all those posts to your credit you are clearly not new to HNA. Surely you have learned not to allow facts to cloud the discussion on here? :!:

Its not that hard to understand.

I shall give you an example.

A woman send her husband to the shops to buy the tescos finest bacon. The husband doesn't want to buy the finest bacon as its too expensive. He buys the standard stuff. He tells his wife that they had run out of the expensive bacon, if it had of been there of course he would have bought it. His wife is now happy.

Easier for you to understand?

Keep things simple - lack of investment & signing players with little or no premier league experience in the summer.
McD said he wanted 2/3 signings in Jan with premier league experience - Kelly yes, Carrico etc??
Trying to spend big money a day or two from the end of the window - why not bid at the beginning?
Why has the club not learned from the previous experience/mistakes in the premier league, or is it geared up to
stay as a small championship club lacking in ambition (the Reading way) rather than become the next Stoke City which is constantly held up
as an example by McD.
McD tells fans to have a reality check, when he faces criticism from fans who see the team unable to defend properly against the likes of Wigan/Aston Villa.
McD has yet to figure out how to beat Aston Villa, Wigan, Southampton, QPR the teams around us P6 W0 D1 L5
Finally, Harte instead of Shorey - I don't think so.

But the bacon was there, it's just the Portuguese checkout assistant wouldn't sell it to the husband because, although he wasn't cooking with it now, he thought he might want to in the future. Therefore the husband has to make do with the normal bacon. However, the wife was still upset.

Alas the bacon was there however the husband was unwilling to pay for it.

I could go and make an offer on a ferrari, the offer could be £10. The dealer would confirm Ive made an offer.

When do we discover 'the husband' is Oscar Pistorius and he shot 'the wife' in the night after an argument ensued following him bringing him the wrong bacon?

And we have no evidence that he didn't he does however have a motive. If the husband had a £5 to spend on fancy bacon why the hell didn't he spend it weeks ago when she was asking for it and he would have got more brownie points?

At what point does the wife ask her husband "where has all the money gone" - because I bet he didn't give her the change back. :|

As if the wife would be giving the husband money.

There is no time for centiments in this game and if Brian is responsible for the signings bought in last summer and January then I think he should go. One name that hasnt been given a mention... Di Matteo?

Likewise, we could have also gone to Fergie and offered to buy RVP - the deal would never ever stand a chance of going through. It always was going to be a very long shot and to leave it right until the death, with no time remaining to implement plan b (I doubt they'd even got one, mind you) was absurd. No doubt some will claim we had been working on it throughout the window but it didn't sound like it from what McDermott had said just a day or so before the window closed.

Seem to remember that there were some on here moaning that the club weren't active earlier on in the transfer window. As usual they were quickly shot down by the club apologists/RTGs who kept saying there was plenty of time. There clearly wasn't. Smart clubs have the deals lined up in principle even before the window opens!

With good reason. Not a chance he'd come to us. Why would he, when after winning the European Cup he'd have a lot bigger clubs than us to choose from if the offers came along
