Di Canio was apparently at the game on Saturday if this is to be believed...

On the plus side, the board seems to be holding up.

Well done, Graham.

What I want to know is who is responsible for the ludicrous set of signings since we went up......that is where the problem lies.

We have to assume BM had a major say and if so he must carry the can (even though I love what he has done for us and he is clearly a top bloke).

But has he been shafted by the new chairman ? If te money was there for Gylfi he should have spent it on 2 prem quality jan signings.

There was never going to be a good time to do this (unless we do a wolves) but I cannot see anyone insiring our present squad to get us out of this....

ADKINS OR DI CANIO PLEASE GOD NO..... ROBBIE...maybe

but if we go down tbh I would rather start next season with BMAC

I'm shocked, if the owner wanted this why wait till now with only 9 games to go, when a new manager could have made influencing decisions in the January window? I wonder if we will ever fully understand if it was the clubs/hammonds failure or Brian's failure overall not to properly strengthen the side in the summer and in jan? Even though we won the championship I put this more down to Brian getting the best out of an average bunch of players as we massively overachieved, a bit like cloughie when he first took over forest, so to sack him now is very Chelsea-like and doesn't do the game any favours. Yes I know football is a results business, but I feel sorry for Brian as he can only work with the players in front of him, and the owner has a short memory as this is the same manager that won manager of the month just over a month ago! Brian was through and through reading, what hasn't helped his case is the decision making concerning subs on Saturday and the subsequent fans booing, in front of the owner.
Managers in modern football are sacked too quickly. If the same happened to ferguson when he started at united he'd not be where he is now. Maybe we do need a freshen up. Maybe Brian has hit a ceiling of ability? But unless the club is going to employ Jesus I can't see any miracles affecting the outcome of this season. Where ever you end up Brian, good luck and thank you for everything you've done to work miracles with an average team, a very rare talent in this modern game.

Libertine What a horrible, stupid, decision. At least give him a full season in the PL after what he has shown he can accomplish.

Much love and respect to Brian. Saved us from a drop to League 1, two great cup runs, got us to a play-off final and won the league the next.

Brian McDermott=RFC legend!

He deserved better from his players, the management and the fans than what he ended up getting this season.

:x

Amend that to some of the support and i agree.

West_Reading If Zingarevich genuinely wanted us to stay up, he should have put his hands deeper into his pockets in the summer and January. Seems to me he's trying to stay up, desperately, on the cheap so he can make a good buck with the big money coming in next season.

How much do you think the likes of Di Canio or Di Matteo would want to come here and manage? :o If they pay for either of them, it would just stick the knife into Brian even more - they could have given him that money to buy some proper bloody players.

They did.

Blackman and Akpan - they cost a fair bit didn't they.

Correct decision, clearly lost the dressing room. no fight no desire in this team, lets get the ball on the deck, fight for every ball, fight till the last minute of the last game.

TommyF I think we can now give up even the slimmest hope of staying up.

Our search must now focus on finding a manager proven at Championship level, capable of making the most from an, on paper at least, average squad. Someone who is capable of working 'the Reading way' (ie: maximum expectation, minimum investment) and with a proven track record of finding 'gems' for next to nothing (a strong scouting background perhaps). Someone who keeps the squad positive despite even when the glass is mostly empty - you could say able to move on from defeat.

Wherever could we find a manager like that?

brilliant post ...but I remain unconvinced about the up and coming newcomers.

I'd be utterly shocked if it was true that he'd 'lost the dressing room'. Brian's the kinda guy who you'd cut off your left bollock for if it would get us three points.

Confirmed £10m+ bid in January.

When asked for, the money gets made available. He clearly didn't ask forcefully enough in the summer and then failed to spend it in January. But don't let things like facts get in the way when you want to say he wasn't given any money.

Don't think he lost the dressing room as in the support of the players. But think he lost the dressing room as in there was no direction or idea about how to get out of the hole. Players went out, tried Plan A, sometimes a bit half heartedly, and then got deflated and looked unspurprised when things fell apart.

Absolutely gutted for him. One of our greatest ever managers. I'll support the new manager whatever, but I phucking hope it isn't Di Canio.

I'm really not sure that's the case these days. Spirit and 'running through walls' is all well and good in a winning side but he's had plenty of run ins with players and inconsistent selections which don't lead to a happy squad. He's looked out of his depth at times and he's contributing to the players looking bad.

As nice a guy as he is, there's only so much of that the players will take let alone the board.
