However, the relationship between Brian and the fans was becoming increasingly strained and perhaps it will be better for all concerned that we have a clean break-up before things get too ugly.

Something needed to change within the club if we were going to become a long term PL club, McDermott's tactical/motivating skills have come short at this level, and as long as the right man is chosen succeed him in the long run this could ultimately prove to be a good decision.

Lets be honest, the football this season has been shite, and the results haven't been much better. Brian hasn't been dealt a massive injustice here. It will be raw for a few weeks because of the successes of previous seasons, and we should remember the fantastic times he's given us. However Anton bought this club with a view to taking it into and most importantly keeping it in the premier league. There is very little room for sentiment.

This was the wrong time, the wrong place, and most importantly, the wrong way to do things. Completely classless. At least give him until the end of the season at this point. I can see this team imploding after this fiasco and spending next season trying to avoid the drop...in the Championship.

no real surprise despite the good run of results in January the axe has been hanging over Brian's head for most of this season and truth be told he probably should of been sacked vbefore the January transfer window opened . But IMO it's our awful record against those teams around us that has cost Brian his job just 5pts from a possible 24 against our relegation rivals is a telling stat you simply can't keep losing games to those teams and keep your job.

I also think that there are behind the scene issues with players such as Pearce, Guthrie, Feds and the odd very odd events that surround Carrico, would be interested in Madejski's views on it, is this Anton cracking the whip and will it affect his relationship with both Madejski and Hammond as this is hardly the "Reading way", who will be in charge on Saturday Gibbs and Roberts maybe ?

We may have made a bid, at the last minute, for Gylfi but Spurs never once said they'd consider it or that Gylfi wanted to come back.

As I and others have said, we could offer £10 million for Messi or Ronaldo or whoever - that means we've made an offer - it doesn't mean either the player wants to come here or their club would accept our offer. It could easily have been lip service from the club because a) people were pissed off when we let Gylfi go and b) fans were expressing displeasure at not having made any real quality signings...

None of which means money wasn't available you retard.

I'm very sad - no-one is going to come in now and "do a Harry" - should have waited til beginning of next season, seen how we started and then possibly made that decision. Or done it at Xmas so a new man could come in and spend all the millions TSI have made available. LOLz.

Thanks Brian - always a legend. Did miracles in difficult circumstances and with next to no money. Be careful what the rest of you wish for with regard to a new manager. Someone who has had no connection with RFC in the past won't feel anywhere near the connection that Brian felt with the club. I hope he gets a great job next season and flicks the Vs at our board and our idiot fans who wanted him gone.

Didnt stop Mcghee or Coppell becoming succesful or idolised though (well idolising Coppell at least!). Yes its a shame that its all worked out the way it has, but i do think that Brian's tactical naivety has let him down a fair bit this season. He wanted to play with defensive midfielders and thats fine,but we did not improve in this area in terms of players coming in and for someone who played as a winger we seemed to rely less and less on the contribution and influence of our wingerplay,supplemented by the fact that the rb/lb's did not offer any support when we attacked. I do wonder whether Anton thought Brian was the man to lead Reading when he took over, the immediate success we had may have rightly or wrongly forced him into putting his own faith in him when Wolves came knocking - a situation not far removed from Di Matteo at Chelsea.

Im sure Brian will be back managing at some point, i dont think there's any point in I told you so's - how we reshape ourselves from this time on is more important. That leads me to the new appointment, clearly an interim manager in the vein of Wolves/Chelsea is a bad idea so i would be hoping for a clever permanent appointment. I dont think we should be neccesarily looking at links towards the 'RFC family' though, we have had several appointments in recent years that have had an attachment. Perhaps now is the time, with a new owner to seek a fresh way forward with a management team that is not rose tinted in any way about the club. Obviously in the background is TSI's thought process in the way ahead for Reading football club, that for now is unfortunately an unknown quantity.Good luck Brian, you cant knock promotion in any way shape or form.

Think Saturday probably ended your hopes of beating the drop but i still think its incredibly harsh to sack Brian Mcdermott. As a non Reading fan i know its non of my business so i will leave you to be sad/happy depending on your viewpoint.

First of all - thanks Brian for getting us to the Premier League with not a lot of management experience. That in itself was a miracle.

But to be honest just as fans bemoan the manager for being too loyal to certain players perhaps the owner also should not be too loyal to his manager.

At the end of the day there's been various stuff going on this season that showed a lack or experience or ability to manage under the intense spotlight of the Premier League and associated media pressures. The Guthrie situation(s), the Federici situation, all these weird backtracks and cover-ups. Frankly at a club where team unity and openness is usually the norm, a lot of this crap has really bugged me this season. It's not the Reading way.

Fair enough you can blame Guthrie (and anyone else in the team) if you want, but who brought him in?

Team selection and substitutions has been a problem all season and he probably realised his mistake way too late.

You can also point to Jobi McAuff being not the best captain (if that's what you think). Again - the manager chooses the captain.

I also think if you've spent the whole week saying the Wigan match means nothing and lost it convincingly, maybe you need to consider ramping up the pressure and getting your players to treat it like a cup final... The game on Saturday wasn't that bad, but how many players could walk off that pitch saying they'd given everything they had an more in a bid to keep us up?

Personally after the game I said it wouldn't be a bad idea to switch the manager now and let someone have time to assess the squad before the summer in a more objective way than an incumbent manager ever would - didn't think it would happen - but now it has I can't say I'm massively disappointed. IF we can find the right guy to replace him.

It was always right to give McDermott a chance to prove himself, and yes you can say he's been denied funds - but has he really been denied? We were looking to spend ten million on one player???

I'm not a massive fan of the managerial merry go round but I think in this case it can be justified. We're not talking Adkins-gate 2 here at least not in my opinion.

To be honest i am appalled the bunch of cununts have got what they want and at this time of the season is just wrong, the players and the fans with some common sense (admittedly very little) must be gutted. Think of all hes done for the club with the likes of the sig long le fondre pearce HRK and the obvious play off final winning the championship and two fa cup finals.

However people like zingarivitch get were they are by making big decisions like this and i hope

As for this being the wrong time? It's absolutely the right time. If we can manage to stay up it will be a miracle whoever the manager is, so why not get someone in now and give them time to assess the squad before the summer, get rid of dead wood and build a new team based on what is actually quite a promising young squad.
