It's the Manager of the Month curse.

Or to quote Coppell, "when we win everyone thinks I'm great, when we lose they think I'm shit!

****ING GUTTED

What incentive does this give ANY manager to take us up??

I never thought I'd say this, but I wish Madejski was top dog again.

Sad sad day, thanks so much to Brian for the wonderful times

Possibly the right decision though as it will enable the new guy to at least have a few games looking at what he has available

Hoping though its not Di Canio who moves in - he was at the ground Saturday apparently...

But what happens next will truly show our ambition

Libertine
winchester_royal Sad sad day for the club as we lose an excellent servant. In complete shock.

However, the relationship between Brian and the fans was becoming increasingly strained and perhaps it will be better for all concerned that we have a clean break-up before things get too ugly.

Something needed to change within the club if we were going to become a long term PL club, McDermott's tactical/motivating skills have come short at this level, and as long as the right man is chosen succeed him in the long run this could ultimately prove to be a good decision.

Lets be honest, the football this season has been shite, and the results haven't been much better. Brian hasn't been dealt a massive injustice here. It will be raw for a few weeks because of the successes of previous seasons, and we should remember the fantastic times he's given us. However Anton bought this club with a view to taking it into and most importantly keeping it in the premier league. There is very little room for sentiment.

This was the wrong time, the wrong place, and most importantly, the wrong way to do things. Completely classless. At least give him until the end of the season at this point. I can see this team imploding after this fiasco and spending next season trying to avoid the drop...in the Championship.

The club was heading down under Brian. This way we have the (very faint) hope of an impact from getting in a new manager. Plus it gives the new guy a chance to have a good luck at the squad before the summer.

Whether this move is the right one all depends on what happens over the next 6 months. If we bring in a new guy and give him the money to shake things up then it could prove to be a positive move. We shall see I guess.

BUT ANYWAY, tonight lets just pay tribute to a great man and an excellent manager, regardless of his failures this season.

If we replace him with Di Canio I will be f****** fuming!

He's never managed a game beyond League One. We need someone with experience, but to be fair I think more focus will have to be made on who can get us ready for a promotion push next year! We desperately do not want to become like Wolves!!!

+1 Winchester Royal's post.

As for this being the wrong time? It's absolutely the right time. If we can manage to stay up it will be a miracle whoever the manager is, so why not get someone in now and give them time to assess the squad before the summer, get rid of dead wood and build a new team based on what is actually quite a promising young squad.

Fine, we'll agree to disagree then. I look at the latest example of how that worked out...the 2011/2012 edition of the Wolves. And as far as being able to assess the squad, that is what video tapes (or CD's) are for.

Tough luck but you were out of your depth and not ruthless enough in the pre season, Leigertwood, Mcanuff, Gorkss, Harte, Church all should have been shown the door, hope you learn from this and come back stronger somewhere else.

Appreciate everything you've done for Reading Football Club.

Can you see the logic of seeeing if you can get another manager in place and decide what needs to be done form the start of pre season whatever division we are in and I suspect it will be the championship.

Why wouldn't they be motivated to take us up?

You'd expect them to think they'll do a better job with less costly mistakes than McDermott has this season and to achieve significantly better results.

Just wondering what you were doing on saturday? Politely clapping because he's such a bloody decent bloke? Are we supposed to sit there and put up with utterly shit football on the back of previous games of utter shit football? Personally, I didn't boo but I can understand why people would have...

Correct decision, but too late.

Very odd timing.

Couple of weeks to get a replacement as we're not getting any points from the next 2 games anyway.

Good luck, Brian and thanks for everything. You're a good bloke. All the best for the future.

Don't come back to haunt us.

Has anyone ever been sacked so soon after winning manager of the month?

Great question... Has he suddenly lost his managerial skills in a matter of days?

Not happy with this...

We're gonna become a Little Chelsea - run by a heartless Russian but in our case with no money. I said 3 months ago that if the club sacked McD I wouldn't be going to any more matches this season. Unfortunately I've already bought my tickets for the Southampton game but shall now try to sell them. In short, in one fell swoop we've become just like every other crappy little club. Classless. I'd have been happy for McD to have been given the first three months of next season in the Championship. 40 years of supporting Reading and this is the worst sacking this club has made, in fact possibly the only "undeserved" one.

Is manager of the month a real insight into managerial skills or just a reflection of a favourable fixture list and a good run of form?

You idiot, the reason why we are in this position is because Madejski is hanging about like a bad smell.

Hammond Howe Madejski all need to follow McD out.

The Reading way doesn't work

In terms of my post, I was actually just wondering what the answer was. Not suggestiong MOTM is an indicator of talent or whatever.

The 'Reading Way' doesn't work.

Zingarevich didn't buy the club to have it bounce around the leagues.
