Club record league defeat

by floyd__streete » 12 Mar 2013 10:40

.....currently stands as the 8-1 reverse suffered at Burnley in the 1930s.

Now we have Eamon Dolan in charge and a group of Championship/League 1 standard players who are de-motivated by the loss of their popular manager ahead of two successive away games at Old Trafford and the Emirates. I really fancy our chances of breaking that unwanted record over the next three weeks.

I'm prepared to wager we don't.

I haven't checked but seem to remember we got beaten by Brighton 8-0 or 8-1 back in the 50's

I'm hoping it happens at Arsenal so I can say I was there.

9-1 down, into town.

It was "only" five in the league game, 7 in the cup (AET). League game was more recent.

Do you understand how arithmetic works?

1-8 = 7 goal defecit
5-7 = 2 goal defecit
2-5 = 3 goal defecit

There are a whole raft of revision aids out there these days if you’re still struggling. I’d commend Sesame Street to you. Good luck with it, we can be sure you’ll let us know how you’re getting on.

RwC – NOT in for the bet. This most pertinent issue for me here is that if we did lose by a club record score, I am not sure I’d even care. First time I’ve been able to say that in around 25 years of support.

Ah, but conceding 12 was over 210 minutes - not 180 - as we had extra time in the cup game. So 12 goals in 210 minutes = a goal every 17.5 minutes, or 5.2 per game.

So there.

i though there was a difference between a deficit and total conceded. but you know better.if you could illuminate me as to how 12 goals conceded in two games does not average out as 6 per game i am all ears.

It's this kind of thing which really makes me doubt my criticism of your music tastes, SFers, following his agreement.

Because the 12 goals were conceded over 2 and a third games.

Indeed. "Only" 9 goals were conceded within the confines of two regulation periods of 90 minutes = 4.5 goals per game.
