Like I said on another thread, I reckon Anton did this with a heavy heart & waited as long as he felt he could. He genuinely wanted Brian to succeed IMO & wasn't waiting to pounce far from it.

Hence why (if he was going to do it at all) he made the decision 3 months too late? Dithering idiocy from AZ.

You can argue for both sides. I'd rather he did it now than in June TBH.

So we can appoint some desperate, out-of-work loser now rather than perhaps a better candidate in the summer who is someone a bit more savvy in not wanting a confirmed relegation on his CV?

He really is the obvious appointment. It's not clear that he's a significant improvement on McDermott, but there you go. It could be worse.

He would probably be willing to manage in the Championship, which you can't say of many of the supposed contenders.

Adkins would be a good appointment but it depends on how much he wants to screw Southampton out of.

I think it is unfair dismissal that he is holding them to account for, if that is the case and he wants as many £'s as possible out of the Saints then for the time being at least he will distance himself from any new job.
On the other hand he may balance the claim off against a new contract and being straight back into work.

Could be a good way of finding who in the Reading squad is fit to play in the Premier League, by finding out if they can play a passing game.

Incidentally once heard Tim Dellor say that Gus Poyet is the rudest manager to interview. Some might think that a good reason to have him here.
