Whoever has commented on this fascist cr*p needs to stop with the silly comments.

At the end of the day I couldn't care as long as he kept us up I don't see why everyone is making a big thing of this if I'm being honest. People need to accept that if we are to stay up then it is likely that the Reading way we have all been used to is going to start to go out of the window a little in terms of the money spent.

We need stretch the boat out a little if we are to be a success at this level though. Look at Stoke they've gradually got bigger an bigger with their transfer fees over the years but the success is showing. Every season we do stay up should be regarded as a success in my eyes until we have players on a Cristiano Ronaldo/Lionel Messi level that are not performing to their best then we can brand our lower end of the table finish a failure. However it will be a very very long time before that could ever be the case.

So the end always justifies the means?

Most people's idea of the Reading way is success from free transfers or turning 100k players into £5 million+ players and getting a profit.

We have enough money or supposedly do in order to be able to keep our club up and running without having to sell to balance the books. What I am saying is that if we want to compete at this level and survive in the PL then we need to be prepared to up the fees and wages. Very rarely does a player from the lower leagues walk in and cut it instantly and while Alfie and Hope probably have in many people's eyes, I think its a very big gamble we are taking on these players if we want to be a PL success.

However Mccarthy and Mcarthur of Wigan are proving they can do it so I am not saying it can't be done bringing in players from the lower leagues to this level I just think its very rare that you find a succesful player from these type of leagues. James McCarthy is a great example of how it can be done however.

My understanding is we want to carry on doing that but be in a better position to plug immediate gaps with established players. Best of both worlds.

No thanks- he is too self important and at times deluded about his abilities. His "individual style" would prove to be nothing more than a storm in a teacup and a very expensive and unsettling one at that. He's also a proven quitter in adverse times. Last thing Reading FC needs just now.

I agree with this, if we are to take chances on players of this stature I think we need to ensure we have experience along with this. Rio Ferdinand and Vidic both partnering Smalling when he was first with United was a great example of this.

Royal91 Having mulled over it for a day I'm starting to think oxf*rd it lets get him in. Yes he is a nutjob but we need to transmit some bite onto the field. Our players were like Brian too nice.

Could he attract players, can he get us playing more attractive football, can he inject some bite and can he win us matches. I don't know but like all managers anything could happen.

If you don't like him, stick to your guns. I don't want him; I will be gutted if we get him. If we start winning under him, I shall be as happy as anyone; but this will not soften me about his arrogance and childish egomania. Egomaniac bastards often do make good managers; but there are plenty of other managers out there we could select--it's not as if we are in with a chance of Alex Ferguson.

At the end of the day everyone just wants to see the club doing well. While Di Canio might not be the best personality or might come across as a passionate nutter, if he is getting the results and we were to survive, then why should anyone care? At the end of the day it is not about the individual it is about the club and getting the best out of it.

No one booed on saturday because they disliked BMD, they disliked the result and the poor performance of the players that is why they booed.

I guess we just have to count ourselves lucky that Benito and Adolf weren't football managers!

My first reaction was a straight, "No oxf*rd way!"

The fact that he is ex-Swindon does put a bad taste in my mouth TBH, but I appreciate that it shouldn't. More than this though, he is too controversial for my liking! We have had a succession of managers who have been of the character that the chairman would want, portraying an image that the chairman would want and I am prod of that image! Paolo would soon put a stop to that IMHO

However, there is one plus! We have 9 games left! Something needs to change! There needs to be a spark! There have been some really good guys mentioned - De Mateo, Poyet, Adkins, Parkinson, Curbishly, McLarren... OK, scrap that last one! However, I am not sure that these are impact managers! Next season, the new BT TV deal kicks in, so staying up this year is mega-important financially, so we need someone who will lift the players straight away. Maybe PDC is the best option in the short term and with the new TV deal, the short term is more important than it would usually be

I still voted no though :D

Just read a quote from Trapattoni a few years ago when he was asked about picking Di Canio for Italy ''Di Canio for Italy? Only if there's an outbreak of buconic plague''. Hopefully AZ doesn't compound the mistake he's already made this week and takes a similar view with the Reading job.

It will actually be his first mistake.

I haven't heard an outcry of protest from other club chairmen regarding the decision he took and, as I've said elsewhere, it's very easy for pundits, other supporters and ex-players to take the righteous, holier than though, attitude when it's not their club in the position in which RFC finds itself.
