sandman Just read a quote from Trapattoni a few years ago when he was asked about picking Di Canio for Italy ''Di Canio for Italy? Only if there's an outbreak of buconic plague''. Hopefully AZ doesn't compound the mistake he's already made this week and takes a similar view with the Reading job.

It will actually be his first mistake.

I haven't heard an outcry of protest from other club chairmen regarding the decision he took and, as I've said elsewhere, it's very easy for pundits, other supporters and ex-players to take the righteous, holier than though, attitude when it's not their club in the position in which RFC finds itself.

What position? It's third highest since its establishment? Yes what an awful position to be in....

The only Prem club that would maybe consider him is the one he wants to use us as a stepping stone for - WHU. But given Gold's ancestry that may not happen.

Ultimately, Di Canio has a big future ahead of him in Eastern Europe or Russia

Here we go again. we should be grateful because having won the lottery they through most of the prize away but we're still better off than we were for so many years. 'Little Reading lack of ambition'

So when your house is repossessed and you are forced to downsize having worked so damn hard for so many years to get that house in the first place, you and yours will look with content and say 'this house is still the third best we have had since we got on the housing ladder'?

Having gone to the effort of typing this in response, I see that actually your point completely failed to address the original one that I made i.e very few of those who are currently critical of the conduct of Anton would have been screaming out for the retention of their manager if their team was bottom of the PL, no matter what that manager had done for them in the past.

By top level English football standards, McDermott got a pretty fair chance compared to most. Just look at the way Warnock and Adkins were treated for starters.

nice "pre-edit" anecdote....just sack the wife days before the bailiffs come, isn't that what we have effectively done?

Cant understand What people have against Di-Canio. He would bring something different and probably the best chance we have of survival. No good players saying he doesn't have premier experience - bit like the pot calling the kettle black. Have to question what those players fear? Impression is that he wants 120% passion and commitment. Why are they worried about that?

He's a fascist (admirer) and that does not fit well with Reading's culture. It is also likely to distinctly p*ss off sponsors like Waitrose.

I think they know he will oxf*rd off within two weeks... Who knows with Di Canio? Who wants to work with/for someone who is not reliable?

Too childish and in general just pathetic. Better managers out there.

Paolo Di Canio has denied that his visit to the Madejski Stadium at the weekend was linked with the departure of Reading manager Brian McDermott.

The former Swindon boss was pictured in the directors' box at Reading during their 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa.

His presence at the game prompted speculation he could be in line to replace McDermott.

"It was just a coincidence. I was there only to watch the game," Di Canio told BBC Sport.

Please not Adkins-we need to be bold and be big-not with some clone of Brian McDermott. It did'nt work with Brian and it won't work with Adkins.
Di Canio and money will be fun and put the zip back into the Mad Stad(in the Championship) for next season.
For God's sake the "Reading way" did'nt and cannot work in the Premiership(when we get back up).
If the Russian says he is going to back his big plans with money then Di Canio (or someone like him ) is the answer.

9 games to go and in the bottom 3. One Man is ideal for the job and hasn't even had a mention!

He's not in work right now and has lots of expedience in this situation

Step forward........

I'm bored of this already. Put Di Canio in to liven things up a bit. It would at least mean the season doesn't just fizzle out.
