AthleticoSpizz Fantastic! Thanx Timmy

Spookily enough, your "bonus feature" features a few of my old schoolmates.

Good to see it struck a chord. I suspected there may be a few on here that recognised more than Martin Allen.

Will post a few more interesting (to me) programmes up at some point.

I am hoping a subscriber to this thread will be able to help me. In either the 74-75 or 75-76 (or even possibly 76-77) season we played Crystal Palace at home and the score was 0-0

I am after the starting line-up and subs for that game. Failing that the squad would help.

Many thanks!

The match you're thinking of was played on New Year's Day 1977. The Reading team was: Death, Peters, Henderson, Bowman, Bennett, Moreline, Murray, Carnaby, Hollis, Hiron, Stuckey. The crowd was 12,088.

Great Football memories but more than anything they give a history of Reading in non football sense. 6d for a Fish Supper sounds good value!!

Great thank you. That was my first game, I had not remembered it was New Year's Day though!

Yes. As well as a history of the club they show some of the social history of the town which is why I've included the internal pages. Most of the programmes from those years included more adverts than actual content about the football club. Probably the ones I've posted have a greater content but that's pretty much unusual right up to and including the early seventies I'd say.

Anyway, here's the Arsenal programme from the FA Cup 5th round in 1935. Reading produced a special programme for this one. Arsenal won the league for the 3rd time in succession this season and unsurprisingly, and as usual, we lost to them 1-0. Arsenal did feature a future Reading manager in Ted Drake.

Great stuff Timmy! As you say, the adverts are the best thing about them. I'd love to be able to go to the 'Cheddar Cheese' after the game! And I think I'd rather listen to 'The Reading Temperance Prize Band' than 'The Big Bad Wolf'...

Agreed BB. I can almost see myself buying you a beer in there ;)

Bump for an massively overlooked post from Mr Greenaway.

Yes, some nice stuff there. I'm particulary jealous of the London War Cup Final programme which is sadly missing from my collection along with, probably the only other programme I'd like, the first home game after the War and the record win against Crystal Palace.

Actually, having a quick scroll down my own post, it's struck me, how back in 1935 even, how many of our players weren't local.

A quick scan of the Pen Paragraphs indicates that the southern most member of staff was the trainer who was Welsh. All the rest seem to be from the North.

Interesting. Reading always did have a large contingent of Scottish players over the years but I never realised that even back in 1935 we were fielding a team devoid of any home based ones.

[quote="Timmy"]Here you go Mr Spizz. Front and Back Cover of Steve's Testimonial. Not scanning the internal 22 pages, not sure there's the interest for one and secondly (relatively) modern programmes don't bend so well. As a bonus I've included a youthful Martin Allen appearance pictured centre as it was in the same box. 9 boxes down out of 10! Might do the Arsenal 1935 Cup game sometime too.

First game i ever went to as a kid

In the England XI I note that Richard Money is listed, who has the nickname of Dickie Dosh :)

Thanks for the mention. I have a lot of other stuff, but it is such a job scanning. Will get round to doing some more one day.

Agreed Ark. It's a pain scanning stuff. Like you I've got a few other things I'd like to share but I'm not sure that the interest is there enough for me to bother. Nice stuff you posted though.

Well Timmy, there's at least three of us interested in the history of the club and maybe a few more :)
I know the club have had their Simod Cup special, but as the actual anniversary is in less than a week, has anyone got anything a bit unusual or quirky? No one's going to beat David Downs and his bottle of shirt wash water but here's something. Somethimes it's quicker and easier just to take a picture of something rather than scan it.

Just caught up with this thread, great memories.

On the Reading schools fixture/photo, I used to play park football in Tilehurst with the goalie Trevor Hemming. Wonder if he posts on here as he and his brother used to go to EP.

Also went to school with the captain Ed O'leary, a m8 of my brother.
