Agreed but unless this headless chicken avoids relegation, half filling the existing stadium next season is far from assured. It will be very interesting to see just how many seats are empty against Southampton.

Believe me, if/when season ticket sales are slow, they will care.

Right decision, but should've been done way earlier in the season if it was going to happen to give anyone new a realistic chance and time to turn things round. Therefore, typical Reading!

...And have some very serious online gambling money behind them.
AlFayed has pumped, what, £100M-odd into Fulham ? Dave Whelan has spent how much ?

Size of attendances is irrelevant if you have profligate owners.
Equally, Newcastle, with the 3rd largest stadium in England, solid large attendances, very nearly went bust under the Hall/Shepherd regime.
Making the Madstad bigger won't turn the club into Juventus. It's just something to show off to our near neighbours.

The sacking of McDermott won't stop the vast majority of proper Reading fans attending games (and even less floating fans) and we'll settle back to our standard Championship crowds of around 18-20k if we're doing ok next season. If we're struggling it might drop down to 15-16k or if we're right up the top of the league we might be able to drag it up to 22k+.

If you were looking just at rescuing this season, it was the wrong decision.
If you are looking in the much longer term (as I hope Anton is), it was the right decision.

If everyone agreed with your views on McDermott's sacking this would almost certainly be the case. The fact that the fanbase is heavily spilt on the matter suggests otherwise.

At least Adkins was sacked when a replacement was ready to take over and had more time to make an impact.

This was a pointless and arrogant decision that has offended many "proper" fans whose views you clearly disregard.

Timing was all wrong, but ultimately the right decision for next season and beyond.

Timing was wrong if you assume it's about staying up this season. It's clearly not though. We'll try to stay up this season, but it's more long term than that.

Indeed, getting rid of a manager with an exemplary record of getting average to teams to overperform in the Championship was definitely the right decision for next season.

Man Friday Again, this sums up my feelings exactly...

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/jim ... 42350.html

and is exactly why I for one shall be boycotting all remaining matches this season as suggested by the first respondent.

Yours in despair

If it's true that SJM and Squeeky "begged" him not to sack Brian, our Russian owner is a c*nt of the highest order  We've just lost one of the major reasons for our success over the last decade and no one we appoint will replace that.

I would welcome Adkin's here simply because he has shown himself capable of getting teams promoted to the top flight........................but Brian McDermott is still the man best suited to managing this club in the Championship.

Frankly, our new owner has 12 months to show he's not Abramovich Mk11 before my seat goes on sale for the first time since 2001.

In the meantime, he may wish to extend the East stand. This would mean all our Glory hunting/booing twats could be housed in one place, thus allowing the demolition of all other stands with a view to expanding the retail park.

This, in my view, has been the darkest week I can remember in my time as a supporter and I don't see a reason to attend for the foreseeable future.............................

Hi Woodcote. Out of interest, where's your seat? What's the view and atmosphere like?

Agreed - however, I like the idea of people nailing their colours to the mast for future ridicule/gloating.

ok.
i think it will be a poor to average(possibly good) decision in the short term, but the further into the future we get, the better we will end up at some point on an infinite timescale

So good in this respect he got the club promoted a season sooner than it's new owner was expecting. Only gullible incompetents like McDermott win 15 of their last 19 games to gain promotion when a mid table finish would have kept them in the job for longer.

If Di Matteo has been approached and rejected our advances, I would have paid to have been a fly on the wall.

Getting stitched by one Oligarch might be unfortunate but twice on the bounce :P Perhaps our new owner needs to learn that not all footballers past and present are quite as stupid as he thinks they are....................... :|
