Higgins would not be there for 'football advice' but merely for news management. i.e. helping to ensure that we don't get mashed by the press which, surprisingly, we haven't yet.

We don't know that. They might have hacked into something or other and stolen all our identities and are at this moment living it up on a hot beach somewhere.

Reading hope for new manager by weekend as Russian owner flies in

Reading are hopeful they will be in a position to appoint a permanent replacement for Brian McDermott before the weekend. Anton Zingarevich, the club's owner, is due to fly in from Russia this week for talks with prospective candidates, including Nigel Adkins, about becoming the new manager.

Adkins remains the frontrunner, although it is by no means regarded as a formality that the former Southampton manager will take the position if it is offered to him. As well as wanting assurances about the club's direction and resources under Zingarevich, Adkins is likely to have other options available to him in the near future, including the possibility of taking over at Leeds United, where Neil Warnock has confirmed he will step down at the end of the season if the club fail to win promotion to the Premier League.

Blackburn Rovers' decision to sack Michael Appleton has opened up another opportunity in the Championship, albeit one that many will view as a poisoned chalice, given the frequency with which the club's owners, Venky's, have changed managers since their takeover in November 2010.

Eamonn Dolan, who was placed in charge of Reading in a caretaker capacity when McDermott was dismissed, is now second favourite for the Madejski Stadium vacancy with the bookmakers. But there are no plans to interview him or allow him to continue until the end of the season in a temporary role.

Under Dolan, who is highly regarded for his work in the club's academy, Reading gave a decent account of themselves in the 1-0 defeat at Manchester United on Saturday. That result, though, leaves Reading second from bottom in the Premier League, seven points adrift of safety with eight matches remaining.

Surely we would be considered a better offer over the likes of Leeds and Blackburn?

Leeds and Blackburn,2 former Premier League champs or Reading,3 seasons in the Premier League.
All 3 have unproven/unknown owners
All 3 will be in The Championship next season
Leeds have the biggest proven crowd potential
Blackburn have the worst
Adkins is a scouser so Blackburn might appeal geographically but he has lived fairly near to both Leeds and Reading in recent times
There could also be jobs coming up at Leicester,Sheffield Wednesday and even Sunderland.

Adkins has only just reached the stage with Southampton where he is free to go for other jobs-that's one of the reasons why he hasn't worked since getting the sack and maybe we were waiting for this to happen if indeed Adkins is the one that is wanted.

I hope we never appoint Colin. The bloke is just an unpleasant individual!
More than that, though, I hope we never become what Blackburn appear to have become!!

BR2 Leeds and Blackburn,2 former Premier League champs or Reading,3 seasons in the Premier League.
All 3 will be in The Championship next season

a. when did Leeds win the Premier league?
b. What relation does the current setup at Blackburn have to that which won the prem?
c. Maybe none of them will be in the championship next year

Hi pedant.
(a) Didn't Leeds win the very first one or was it the one before the start of New Age football?
(b) It is still Blackburn Rovers with a history of winning major trophies such as the FA Cup and the Premier League-history is still relevant to some people
(c) Maybe-care to give me odds?

Can't believe hes still only 33/1 with all the money flooding in for him. Time for another tenner... who else is in?

I know I'm sounding like a stuck record here, but Poyet's odds really are flying in. Around 2/1 with most bookies now. The money's coming in from somewhere.

Means nothing though - McD was bookies favourite to take the Wolves job last season, then we hear he didn't even speak to them.......

2/1 in from 14/1 this time yesterday means that some significant money has come in for him. Now given all the media reports are saying Adkins, it's difficult to see why that money is coming in unless there's some sort of ITK stuff going on.

It could be ITKs, or it could just be some people seeing a bit of value, then others jumping on when they see the odds coming in.

Or the bookies are trying to get people to put money on someone else, so they don't lose out too much when Adkins is appointment

You don't think that maybe the bookies will take legal action if anyone ITK has placed a winning bet? It is illegal, you do know that?

Lol. Maybe they should sue me for the £600 I made on Park joining QPR then.

Still, we could be Blackburn...

Blackburn managerial shortlist reportedly includes Benitez, Laudrup, Eriksson, McClaren and Sherwood. Amazing!

Are you a twat?
I made the point that history and potential are factors-you have just gone for history.
So,what do you think or don't you have a view and are just happy picking away at other people's postings and very seldom taking the chance of expressing an opinion?
Be brave,join in for once.
Never mind being a fox, wouldn't being a leech be more appropriate?.
