I thought Tony Bloom was well minted, can't see how Poyet would view our job as any different to Brighton that being the case. Unless they're also looking at replacing him which is strange given they have a fighting chance of overtaking us.

Despite thoughts to the contrary the EP are saying Reading will bide their time over appointing a new manager. I will therefore be surprised if we have a new name in place before the Arsenal game.

Brighton have apparently already rejected an approach for Poyet so whether that goes further remains to be seen.

Adkins is rumoured to be having talks with AZ this week.

Enrique is still in the picture but how much of that story is bs is anyone's guess.

Parky is expected to sign an new deal with Bradford shortly.

In the end I bet Dolan gets the nod in another seemingly totally unambitious Reading move.

Greater potential and history at Brighton?

Getting good crowds and they have a decent catchment area.....but then so do we, I feel.

Greater history? They've won exactly one more FA Cup semi-final than we have and have enjoyed one more top flight season than us.

Don't really want to get into who is bigger etc.
In my lifetime Brighton have generally played at a higher level than us so I tend to think of them as bigger,Clough era,FA Cup-final (Smith must score)etc.
28,000 crowd the other day and already talking of extending the ground.

As for Reading we have been hearing about the ground extension for 7 years and although in theory a good catchment area but in practice won't we always be that club to the west of Chelsea and Fulham?
Also from a manager's point of view with children you would expect him for aesthetic reasons to want to live around the Brighton area rather than the traffic jam that is Reading.
I'm not knocking Reading or the club but having lived away from the area for so long it is only the family and the football club that make me ever want to visit the town where I had the (mis)fortune to grow up.

My gut feeling is this may end up happening by default. Anton has made a stand and needs to back it up with cash. No one of note will come here without being promised substantial backing. I'm not sure we're in the position to be able to offer this now.

Pretty much. Seemingly back from injury the last week or so but fans perception is that the club are preparing for life without him. Even when he's been fit they've not been playing him often although when he has played he has been one of their best players.

I will LOL if we don't get a permanent replacement in before the end of the season. It will completely fly in the face of the Anton Apologists spurious reasoning that the BMc sacking was somehow perfectly timed for the new man to be able to assess the squad.

Clough thing was a total joke in the end though wasn't it, half a poor season best remembered for an 8-2 home defeat? The whole thing was an ego trip for a chairman who - to be fair - eventually got his top flight dream. For someone of my era, BHA are best remembered for sharing with Gillingham, playing at the Brighton equivalent of Palmer Park and narrowly avoiding relegation from the Conference. Its all relative and its all a moot point. I can't see BHA being happy to lose another manager to a club with a similar size and potential, especially one which could be passing them on their way up.

And do you really think that we live in Fulham's shadow? The amout of drones wearing Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal shirts (never Fulham) at Reading station on a Saturday morning (speaking as someone who, like you, commutes in to Reading for home games) heading into London to watch their teams always makes me think that stadium expansion would be absolute folly.

I think they get slightly more fans that us because a nice home stadiums been long in coming. I'd like to think that if we had actually played at Palmer Park we'd have sold out! Fair play to them though, because if we had bulldozed Elm Park decades before getting the Madejski, I doubt we'd still have a club...

But overall, similar, one club towns squeezed by London...
