So he has a worse record than McDermott and spent more money.

TBM
akranes
TBM Why is Poyet any better than having McDermott though?!

What experience does he have, exactly?!

Plays nice football?!?!

Won League 1 with BHA ahead of Saints?!?!

Is from South America?!?!

We don't have the players to "play nice football" though......so unless he is given a whacking great big transfer budget, its not going to work here

I disagree. Guthrie, Shorey, McCleary, Kanu, Kebe, Akpan, Kelly, Le Fondre, Morrison, Roberts - All capable of playing a more "passing game" - Just under Brian, they didn't. I actually believe we have quite a few players who are talented on the ball - and a change of method - ie, moving to a passing game, shouldn't be too much of a culture shock.

Alexander Litvinenko
winchester_royal
Alexander Litvinenko "Permission to talk" is just that, though, and might be triggered by a "Premier League" clause in Poyet's contract.

He might not be offered what he wants, or Reading might quail at the compensation cost of getting him to break a 5-year contract.

Then again he might just be doing what McDermott did with Wolves last year, and using the interest of another club to negotiate a better contract package where he is - without any intentions of actually leaving.

Ruh roh here comes Captain Killjoy

You got the title wrong, it's "Captain Realistic."

Just amazed that everyone seems to think that "permission to talk" automatically equals "deal done." Still a long way to go...

dont think anyone has said its a done deal.
just that this means we want to talk to him, and that he may get the job

I'd marginally prefer Adkins but if it is to be the manager form our feeder club, Brighton, then it probably ties in with Anton's world view, ie plays decent football, has had some success, might know a bit more about foreign players, etc.

Also, nailed on that we will buy from them, Bridcutt first, then the Spanish bloke I imagine.

Lolz, Laurent Blanc has now appeared on the betting and from nowhere, is second favourite with Betvictor and Stan James...

I'm very :| about whether this is an improvement - Gus got £3m for Mackail Smith and didn't make the playoffs, Brian got some cash for loans and frees and won the title.

But given where we are, I'd be very happy with Poyet. He knows the Championship, hes knows English football, was a top player here, is settled in London, can attract some Spanishy-flair players that appear to be all the rage...

Ticks a lot of boxes.

I love reading the North Stand Chat thread about how he'd never go, a lot of comments about laying him on the exchanges and then accepting the fact that Gus wants to move closer to London...

That may well be the cause of BMcD's downfall. He had brought in several players suited to a style of football that he never seemed to have the confidence to play. Almost the opposite of Rodgers, who tried to play the passing game witot bringing in the players to do so.

It's also about his contacts. He's brought some bloody good players in to Brighton that otherwise wouldn't have touched the place. It'll be the same here. Go get 'im!

Poyet > Adkins.......

Mariappa, McCleary, McAnuff, Guthrie, Carrico, Le Fondre and then maybe HRK, Kebe etc. could all fit nicely into a top championship team, playing top football.
