Is Adkins the right choice?

by Royalwaster » 26 Mar 2013 08:12

What's the view now that it looks like we've got a new manager - do you still think sacking BM was wrong, or was it the right thing to do but hiring Adkins is wrong? Have your say now:

He's by far and away the best man to get us back up, so yes!

I'd have preferred Brian to gain promotion next year, but what's done is done.
Let's at least stick with Adkins (unless he does a Rodgers!).
Managers should be given at least 3 years and their performance judged as a whole. In which case Brian would have passed comfortably, rather than judging him on the last 5 results.
If we become another Blackburn i'll be devastated!

Sounds like he would get on well with Alan Partridge.

The fact that I, like many others, dislike the bloke from a personal persepctive, but think he is the right man for the job (for a multitude of reasons) is, in my opinion, a good sign. Have had it up to here with everyone saying what a nice bloke Coppell was; what a nice bloke McDermott was blah blah. That doesn't count on the pitch.

Reckon it is too late for Adkins this year (and suspect his agreement to join was conditional on hearing this from the Club), but I like his style of play and his choice of players - both those he has developed and those he has signed. Although we have had the upper hand against Southampton in recent years, their squad is far superior to ours.

Am now actually looking forward to the last few games now, whatever happens, and to next season.

Spud Gun Adkins was the easy choice, not the right choice. The right choice allegedly turned us down...

And you are qualified how to make that statement?

To be fair what happened out on the pitch under Coppell and McDermott was pretty outstanding - certainly far greater than anything any other Reading manager has ever achieved. The fact they were both decent blokes who conducted themselves in the right way was just a bonus.

Positives - I think this appointment stops us doing a Wolves - I fully expect that we will be competitive in the Championship with Adkins at the helm.

Negatives - I think it is a like for like replacement to Brian (after all Brain won their personal duel last season) and does not take us to the next level.

However, Brian is not coming back so we might as well get behind Adkins next season. For this season I am done and will not be attending any more matches in protest at the club's sacking of Brian – but I will most likely be back attending all the home games again next season as we challenge at the top of the table.

Interestingly the poll shows that the noisiest on here do not represent the majority view - from reading the various threads on here you'd have thought that most people thought that:

a) sacking BM was the wrong choice and b) appointing NA is the wrong move.

But actually over 80% think NA is the right man for the job and more than half think that sacking BM was the right choice. Just shows that those that shout the loudest often don't represent the majority view.

Anton's comments just now on the January transfer window I think just confirmed a point made by others previously that BM lacked ambition - very similar to SC before him - not spending the money when it needed to be spent.

In protest? Or are you deep down just a glory hunter? :D

Yes.

All we have to do now is hope that the Club was the Right Choice for Adkins.

I still liked Dolan, but Adkins or Brian, there is simply no choice. Brian was out of his depth and Adkins has better proven Premiership experience then Brian anyway.

Do You See?

And Adkins hasn't just sat back waiting since Southampton he's actively gone out across Europe looking at the way things are done there and hopefully picking up contacts and methods that improve him and his vision so while not ecstatic with the appointment it would appear to be intelligent, well thought out and well deserving of a good long go.

Although, on another thread with more votes, the majority say that it was the right decision to sack Brian. How to reconcile this apparent conundrum :?:

Showing the same thing, surely then? What's the conundrum?
