Adkins favours a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Alf is likely to remain on the fringes, sadly.

It will once Adkins gets rid of the deadwood and brings in some of his own players.

I don't mind what formation he plays, I'm looking forward to some entertaining football and him having a clear-out of some of this deadwood:

Church
Tabb
McAnuff
Leigertwood
Gunter
Cummings
Harte
Gorkss
Mills
Roberts

Me too. This is how 4-5-1 should be played and is played successfully at this level. It also lends itself more to Guthrie, which would have been nice had we made this change in January.

he really doesnt.

he is a 442 type of man
was started the season really really oddly and were completely embarrassed by wigan at home in August playing 442.
he was kind of forced to play a system that we are now and forced to play (eventually) Boruc in goal as he stuck with Kelvin Davis or (alarmingly) Paulo Gazzaniga. If he stuck with those two, we would be bottom of the league.

in the promotion from league 1 and in the championship he most definitely favoured 2 men up top with wide players who cut in. most of the time a 4-diamond-2
last season, both our fullbacks were very high in the assists stats, which is his style and what got us murdered at the start of this season.

just look at the assist for Frazer Richardson and Danny Fox here (our RB/LB last season)

Haha, that's fine, it's interesting to see we've got similar opinions.

Adkins was brilliant for us but he definitely wasn't perfect in some aspects (the Boruc situation) and some things tactically (Stoke away, United home, trying to defend leads etc instead of taking the initiative) but for the back-to-back promos, attractive footy and reuniting the fanbase, I'll always be thankful. :)

So yeah, back on topic, expect more mobile fullbacks (assuming Harte hasn't gained a few yards of pace :D) and a huge emphasis on them providing the service for your front players. The passing will be pretty crisp and you should see a fair few goals and some exciting football, though it takes a while for it surface (it may be a bit disjointed for the first couple of months as the players adapt).

Oh, and yeah, you're right about one other thing - it was pretty clear from the start that the rampaging fullbacks tactic wasn't going to work in the PL
