mumbo-jumbo I felt disappointed yesterday, but have felt strangely excited today. I think his optimism and cheeky smile is growing on me and we will learn to love his little 'scouser' accent and the way he says football. Welcome Nigel.

Sounds like you are happy being groomed.

Spud Gun Adkins was the easy choice, not the right choice. The right choice allegedly turned us down...

not sure I agree, poyet has done well but adkins has done more and until this season with I suspect less money

Tommy Youlden's Ears I hope I grow to worship at his feet...but for now Adkins still seems a cringeworthy interbreeding of David Brent and a badminton-playing geography teacher. I used to wince at his interviews when he wasn't ours, now I just want to shrivel in shame. He's a man without charisma, but who thinks he has it.

Well, if I had any doubts, I'm now on board. :P

I was wondering how Anton/board put the club in the position we were, and we were somehow doing everything right, if indeed Adkins was the 'only choice' and yet he initially turned us down and could have ultimately?

And since we are talking personalities, I was going to add that 'Nige' seems to me to be the kinda bloke that this fan base could turn on quick with his 'cheeky grin and accent' if indeed results don't pan out. But hey, wagons roll...

Honestly it's about time some asks WTF.

WTF is it with all these stupid comments about his grin etc. I joined in as it's a bit of fun banter but it's clear some people are serious about not liking his "smugness" or his tan or his positivity or whatever.

I mean FFS this guy comes across as a decent genuine likeable down to earth bloke. Granted Brian is an extremely hard act to follow in terms of persona but Nigel really seems like a top guy. Anyone knocking the poor lad befor he's even managed a game on points such as personality etc is a bit of a retard.

That note he left for the players being positive and supportive of them despite the club doing a massive dirty on him just goes to show what kind of a guy he is. If it was me I'd just walk out and tell them all they can f*** off, but he had the strength of character to do that. The fact that we even jokingly take the piss out of such an importantly revealing gesture shows what cnuts inhabit HNA and why we don't deserve a good manager.

Together as one Nige, welcome to the club!!!

Agreed. Not afraid to speak his mind either, on topics which Brian would maybe ignore or simply feel uncomfortable about covering. Much more outgoing too, and I think it helps his positivity become infectious. Listening to HRK on the radio yesterday and he was saying how much positivity Nigel brought to training.

Exactly that. From where I am standing he seems a top top bloke. Driven, determined, full of ideas.

Not getting this hate around smugness etc, such lazy comments.

I for one is incredibly excited by this appointment.

I think the biggest difference between McDermott and Adkins is that Brian seemed almost apologetic that we are in the PL, whereas Nigel has been more defiant about it.

McDermott had his favourites and was reluctant to drop them ,he was far too loyal..Adkins will be far more ruthless, and all will start with a clean sheet.Great appointment and can look foreward to better new signings and a lot of dead wood bing kicked out.The future looks very bright in the Championship for next season.

Delighted by this appintment, but be aware, its not going to be an overnight fix, I`m predicting a rocky start, then hopefully he will get his own people in for the next season, then we can kick on from there.

I'd be very surprised if Legs and McAnuff don't start tomorrow.

Do not be fooled by Adkins' seemingly pleasant and "nice" persona. He is, but he can make tough decisions too. Having that "nice" persona is most definitely a sign of any weakness he has to operate as a manager.

floyd__streete Pleased.

Four promotions under his belt - at least twice as good a track-record as any manager RFC have ever appointed - and his sides play good football, Southampton's 1-0 win against us back in November was extremely flattering.....for Reading.

Spent a lot? Well, mainly in the Prem but - newsflash - thats what you kind of have to do to stay in this league. Points-wise, Saints cushion to survival under their new bloke is no greater now then it was under Adkins.

I like his positive attitude, handles the media well and clearly has something about him. Well done to all concerned at Reading FC for securing this.

Spot on, very pleased with this appointment, and agree with the comment on another page about the difference in attitude to Brian who was almost apologetic about little old Reading.

Looking forward to the next few games, but whether we survive or not, we'll see the fruits of Adkins' appointment next season.

The right manager at the right time; if we had waited til summer some other team would have snapped him up. A chance to look at players give them a chance and move n those who don't adapt to the hopefully-new playing style

TheSaintlee that is true that we did lose to QPR
probably one of the most weird games I have ever seen

we had 21 shots on goal, scored 1. their keepers, both Ceasar and green pulled off some unbelievable saves
QPR had 3 shots and scored 2 of them

we were doing very much the right things.

if you look at the score line in isolation then yes, it was a bad result. At the game, it was almost embarrassing how much we pressurised QPR.
however, it was game where their players actually played to some sort of ability. Samba was immense that day.

Just offering my opinion about adkins, if you want to look at results in isolation that is up to you. I am happy we have Pocchetino and im sure you are delighted with adkins.

I am really not too sure about Pocchetino and, just as the sacking of Brian Mc Dermott saddened me, so was I puzzled about Adkins's sacking. But then I am not responsible for millions of pounds of a football club's money...

Dunno about that. Coached one other team, achieved nothing other than losing his job.

Not saying that means he is going to suck, just means few can really say with any confidence how good he will be.

The appointment got all of 30 seconds mention on Football focus (other than his cringe-worthy poem). It's like training for trying to spot our split second appearance on the football league show next season.
