Southampton Prediction Thread

by Divvy » 01 Apr 2013 15:40

Home win. I fancy 2-0.

Too little too late, but I'm looking forward to welcoming Nigel Adkins to the club, and hoping Leigertwood has played himself out of the team..

These international breaks have really cheesed me off this season. It's felt very stop start stop start all season. I'm looking forward to 46 games and mid-week evening kick-offs again.

Nailed on Saints win for me. The question is how many do they score??

I'll be nice and say 1-3.

Roll on May!

I think we'll sneak it 1-0.

Hopefully Leigertwood is benched. He couldn't have given Adkins a better example of why he shouldn't be playing at this level on Saturday.

I just can't see us winning any more games this season - so I'll go 1-1 or possibly even lose 2-1 which should ensure a massive win for us!

The thing that worries me is Reading have always been poor when teams press high up the pitch due to our inability to pass ourselves out of trouble.

Adkins promoting a passing philosophy coupled with Pochettino's desire for a high tempo game when players press high up the field, this could end up as the worst defeat of the season.

Southampton are playing some extremely good football at the moment. 3-1 Saints, and another goal for HRK.

They really are playing well right now. The ONLY thing that cold upset the apple cart is them feeling a bit weird playing against Adkins. Saying that, they dealt with the changeover really professionally from the outside looking in so I'm afraid I only smell defeat for us.

1-2 to Saints.
Pogrebnyak.

Much recriminations, gnashing of teeth and wailing follows as people expect Adkins to turn around a team in abject form in the space of 10 days.

Realistically, how long should we give him? Until Christmas?

Thing is, he was obviously brought in to try and keep us up, or we may as well have stuck with McD until end of season - so how long do we give him in that case?

Only to those who are hard of thinking like yourself. He was actually obviously brought in to build a slightly new playing style and keep us / get us back in the Premier League.

He should get until Xmas 2014 at least, preferably 2015, providing he is doing a reasonable job. So keeping us above about 16th in the Championship in the first season, preferably top 12. And improving on that in the second season, preferably making at least top 6.

Basically it all depends on context and performance.

Unfortunately, International breaks also affect the Championship!!

Our best hope in this game is that NA knows the Southampton team.

Reading 10-0 Southampton

Leigertwood x5
McAnuff x5

As the final goal goes in they both do a lap of the pitch flicking the v's at the entire Stadium.

Goals written all over it. Once the Adkins love fest is over we go on to nick it 3-2. Pick the winner of the G/N as well, and it's happy days
