Sanguine So how many times should he be punished for not travelling? Seriously, your post reads like he murdered someone.

just the once. which he was. then got straight back in the team.
he was later dropped for not being particularly good.

would be the strangest vendetta against a player ever to drop him, then bring him back, then drop him again for the thing he was dropped for before.
so strange i say to you sir, that its utter bollox

Tbf my post was in response to 2WW1WC's ridiculous post that sets out Guthrie's crimes like he's a serial killer.

And the bit about his wife's pregnancy is just offensive.

Sanguine A 451 where Guthrie is expected to do the work of the TWO defensive midfielders. Brilliant.

Guthrie is expected to do his job. Some of that will be defensive, most of it will be creative - when I've seen him I'm not sure he's done either.

^^^this

but apparently that s all to do with the system, the tactics, the players around him, the manager etc etc

LOL.

he simply writes a list of the things he thinks hes done. and says he disagrees.

the serial killer bit is just out of your little mind.so seems odd to have a go at him about it.

you need to adjust your offencometer if thats the case. its not offensive in any way. its just baseless and made up.

I liked how Guthrie's comments on radio were a "blatant uncalled for nasty swipe at Brian", but Pog's equally critical comments were an example of someone "losing it, could have happened to anyone."

Yes, you make a fair point, the post I replied to was very even-handed.

never said it was, mongbeard
just said the bit about serial killer is simply your added comment/opinion, and nothing to do with his list of stuff.to me it just reads like a list of things danny guthrie has done to deserve not really playing.
ive also clearly said guthrie hasnt really said anything bad, that any inferred dig is just made up by the journo trying to get a sensationalist story(much like your serial killer schtick)
also said quite cleary that 2ww has made up the bit about using the difficult pregnancy as an excuse.

guthrie is still clearly a wrongun though.
personally i think pog is too

Lets be honest, Guthrie and - to a lesser extent - Pog have both been failures. The fact that both have spoken better - or at least, with Guthrie, more often - than they have played shows that we failed to judge their character particularly well, let alone their abilities/strengths (I am still not entirely sure what these 'abilities/strengths' are in Guthrie's case).

Guthrie has to be chalked down as a bad signing against Brian McD and Nick(y) Hammond. In the same way, Pog can be chalked up against Anton Zingarevich 8)

ALF interviews with Goals on Sunday as well as Talksport between the Sunderland and Stoke games in February:

http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/pre ... er-sub-tag
http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/ ... kjaer-1912

This was after we had gained momentum. Basically Le Fondre claims he is frustrated in the super-sub role and would like to start more games. Says he spoke to McDermott about this. Yes, he claims he is a team player and all the rest, but why was there a need to bring up that he was frustrated not starting games. Inadvertently or otherwise he was putting pressure on McDermott, through the media, for him to start him more, which would also require a change in system - his comments were unnecessary.

In terms of people too big for their boots, maybe add Le Fondre. He's been a great super sub this season, but when he's started he's looked pretty average.

In my mind, a key, in-form player using the media to promote his own agenda when the team is in good form, is more disruptive than a fringe player refusing to sit on the bench during a losing streak.

Not claiming what ALF did was worse, but that it was more significant. It just goes to show that whilst Guthrie may be the worst at doing so, our season has been littered with players showing bad attitudes; not focusing 100% on their own performances but seemingly claiming they're good enough for first team football when they're clearly not.

its just a case of - in a season where you lose most of your games, players will be as unhappy as the fans, and w3ill get frustrated. this puts a maginfyingglass up to the squad that simply wouldnt get any air time if we'd been winning

Ian Royal
St. Brynjar No one player covered himself in glory. Back four worked incredibly hard to deal with the constant onslaughts and mistakes are to be expected in that situation though. Not sure what Karacan brings to the team that Tabb didn't already. If two managers see Ledge on the training ground and choose to play him despite what we see as bad performances then perhaps we're missing something.

Some are. He's our only midfielder who can effectively break up play. If his team mates give him options and show movement he can pass ok if not under immediate pressure. Not really good enough at this level, but neither is most the team. Adkins will have to play him or come up with a different solution as no one else can do the positive role he is there for.

I think Akpan is someone who is capable of going into Ledge's role provided he is given some time. With a bit of training he would be an ideal fit seeing as he already has the physique and height for it. I also think Tabb should be someone we might want to be keeping if we do go down especially as the slate has been wiped clean now BMD has left.

However at the same time I feel comfortable with Adkins blooding some of the youngsters into the midfield next season such as D'Ath and Obita who seems like he has been here a very long time now I think its time he got his chance.

Up front I think we have a very exciting finisher in Samuel and provided we give him the best possible opportunities I think he could go on to be a big hit in our side.

It sounds promising when you think Adkins has helped to develop the likes of Lallana Schneiderlein and Shaw and what makes it better is the fact that we are in a position to be able to keep hold of these players. It is important we keep the balance of experience and youth right though.

Obita sounds like he's been around for ages but is still young at 19 but is ahead of many of the others at his age in terms of development (usually the stand out player when I've seen him play, but have seen some stinkers as well) and I think we should start blooding him in the first team asap to help his development (I don't believe league 1 loans are that valuable comparatively to playing with the first team in Championship).

Lawson D'ath is an interesting one, as it looks like his current contract expires in the summer. He made 14 appearances for league 1 Yeovil last year, but this year has only gone to league 2 sides. Has he done enough at league 2 level to prove himself worth a new contract?

Luckily not my call to make.

They are good enough when they are good enough, and I don't see enough of them to know if they are good enough.

But from an outsiders perspective, the difference I guess i've made between Obita and D'ath is that Obita is on loan at league 1 level and Lawson D'ath has only only been able to get loans at League 2 after making 14 appearances in league 1 last year. Obita should be tested at Championship level next as that is the next step in his development but as we are getting relegated it makes sense to give him those games with us rather than with a rival, as he has made consistent steps up the league while Lawson D'ath has only gone backwards inspite of his good performances at U21 level while being a year older.

conversely, he'll get games if hes good enough to get games. not before.

if you can get him in and around the squad, and bring him in for a cup game to see how hes coming on, then great, but personally i say sod not buying a proper winger cos weve got some kid who might be great one day

D'ath is an interesting one because his main quality throughout his development here is one that is patently lacking from the current squad. That's the ability to score goals from midfield. Whether that's enough to fit in with Adkins' brave new world, only time will tell.

What's the point in having an academy if you don't give them a good go before writing them off?

There's all sorts of reasons a loan could go badly for a player that may flourish in your own squad. As you can see from the number of players who flourish under one manager and utterly fail under another.

I do wonder at which point these youth players become the managers call to get rid of.

the reason to have an acedemy is to supplement your squad with the odd bit of home grown talent, which in turn means you pay out less in transfers, and so you can sell players to teams across the leagues to mitigate the costs of looking after the academy.
the point of the academy is not to generate players you just drop randomly into the team whenever you feel like it.

when they is good enough they will get games. especially in the championship.and especially under adkins.
i hope they are good enough, and eventually get hundreds of games for RFC. but just dumping them in as 1st/2nd choice at the start of the season and hoping isnt really any kind of sensible tactic.unless theyre obviousy a sigurdsson
