If we are mathematically relegated with a few games remaining I would like to see maybe someone like Samuel or Obita given their chance even if it was the second half or w.e.

From what I've seen of them they're some way off chump level even.

Yeah I don't want to see us playing even worse players than we currently do tbh - shit's depressing enough as it is.

At least it provides a decent excuse for subpar performances though.

You obviously have not seen them play. Good enough to play for England and play with players who have played for there prospective First Team who come from Prem and Championship
clubs.

Do you think they were picked for England for sentimental reasons because they are Reading Players or because they just might have some talent?

Lets not talk like they're playing for the full national side here. They've played at youth levels, were loads of players who've done that have gone on to achieve sweet FA. I've seen Obita play. He's not in the same league as McAnuff, and not as good as HRK. Yet. He might be good enough to start a few games and put in some sub appearances next season and then kick on though. Assuming we get relegated.

I only watched the highlights so not in a great position to comment, but from what I've heard and read it was the same old Reading we have seen so much this season. Giving the ball away cheaply and having too much respect. I could see that just from the highlights, we gifted them their 3rd goal by giving it away from our own corner (LOL), and for the fourth Mariappa misplaced a pass and ended up giving away the penalty. Obviously it is going to take a few games for Adkins influence to show, he needs to prevent us from letting these bad habits happen and start teaching the team how to keep the ball and playing passing football. These last few games will help us and Nigel prepare for next season, by practicing a bit more against the big teams and seeing who he wants and who he doesn't. It is going to a take a while before Adkins can fix the damage McD has done (hate to say it, but its true). My guess (and hope) is that he will clear out half the squad and start again because that is what needs to happen if we want to bounce straight back.

Well, magnify the highlights tenfold, and thats what it was like in the flesh.

Giving the ball away cheaply was only half the story. As you say a clear out is required, especially if we are to compete with teams such as Arsenal, and mimic their style of play. Throwing the ball down the wings and hoping for Jobi and HRK to beat the fullbacks and whip a cross in to the Pog or Hunt jsut didn't happen. Conversely, Arsenal playing the ball at speed in front of our box left us chasing shadows and looking like a bunch of divs.

It wasn't so much their penetration. It was Ramsay, Arteta, Cazorla and EVEN Gervinho moving the ball at pace in the final 3rd that made us look so poor. If Adkins aspires to play that way, Jobi, Karacan and Ledge aint the ones to do it. Maybe Guthrie, but thats it. Kebe and HRK also couldn't play at that tempo, but they do offer more single handed penetration.

It's got to start from the back 4 at the end of the day. Shorey is the only defender I have seen this season that is capable of passing out of defence with any confidence, but his contract is up at the end of the season.

Central midfield is obviously not up to standard - with Guthrie off at the end of the season and Tabb OOC it leaves us with just Karacan and Akpan who are capable of A) passing the ball B) staying fit. I seem to remember reading that Adkins is a 4-4-2 man which begs the question where does Carrico fit in (if he ever gets match fit)?

Wingers are perhaps the only position where no work is needed - Kebe, McAnuff, McCleary and HRK are all top 6 championship without a doubt.

Pog will be off in the summer. Roberts is crocked. Hunt and Church are OOC which leaves us with Le Fondre (who is the type of striker we will need under Adkins). So we could end up bringing in 3 strikers or more over the summer?

I'm sure Adkins already knows this though. As much as I love BmcD there is no way he would have been ruthless enough to tear this squad apart next summer like it needs to be.

Does it really need a manager to explain to you that you don't pass it to someone wearing a different shirt?
