SUMMER TRANSFER BUDGET

by AkpansBFF » 04 Apr 2013 11:52

With the probability of going down, what will out summer transfer budget be?

Fordhams GETREADING seems to think Adkins is being given £30,000,000 to spend and that could be another reason why he changed his mind.

I personally think this is if he can keep us up, if we go down I think for our championship budget in the summer Anton will back Adkins and give him around £10-£15,000,000 to reshape our new "passing" and "attacking" team.

Thoughts?

I dont really believe in transfer budgets anymore. It seems to be more the case that a manager goes to a chairman on a case-by-case basis looking at the players he wants and whether they'll fund them.

Never mind the transfer budget? What about the wages budget?

Sign one player for £5M and pay them 50k a week on a 4-year contract and that's over half of your £30M budget gone.

This has been the case at Reading in recent years, and was Mr. Mad's preferred way of doing things. It does appear to have led to some confusion between Brian and Anton, however, over who was responsible for not doing enough last summer.
I do think Nigel will know what his budget is, though it may not be made public.

Depends on what you mean by budget. No way in hell would someone say "Your budget is £30m" then the manager spends £5m on a player and is told no more. Unless you're a stupid as Liverpool.

if i were a business man i would be budgetting for the entire package every time i bought a player.
signing on fee, plus wages for duration of contract.

For anyone that has played football manager will know you are giving a total budget, which is then split between transfers and wages

So it may be £30m in total but only £12m of that is for actually buying the players

I would think that he would need 10-15 million in transfer budget, to challenge for promotion straight away. If the club is happy with a slow burn rebuild, then 5-10 million would be a good starting point.

Problem is, fickle fans will not want a slow burn rebuild...
