michail antonio

by USA_Loyal_Royal » 04 Apr 2013 22:03

Ive been following his career ever since he left us and he has truly come good in the championship. he could have been a huge asset to us if we had the foresight to have kept him. antonio, HRK, kebe, mccleary would have been an incredible force on the wings in the championship and with some more experience they could do well in the premier league too. maybe adkins will see him as a player he will want to bring in over the summer if Sheffield Wednesday get relegated?

this may have been one of the bigger mistakes BM made, unfortunately.

My Wednesday supporter friend would not entirely agree with that. Antonio has had a reasonable but not great season in his eyes.

interesting. i would assume that 9 goals in 38 matches with 12 assists for a winger would constitute as a great season. when is the last time we had a winger get 9 goals in a season in ANY league?

Antonio wanted to leave. His choice. We helped his career no end, good luck to him.

Correct. The fact he tripped over himself every time he got the ball and most of his crosses ended up in the crowd was just a happy coincidence. Would rather have Henry back.

Agree entirely about Henry...I always thought it was very short sighted of Coppell to let him go. Although I understand alot of that was down to his attitude. He has shown that with the right management, he has become a really talented player...always looks awesome against us now!

Rather have had Antonio on the wing that McLeary or even Robson-Kanu. Antonio is more direct, more of a physical presence and gave us the ability of a long throw option.

Still it's always easier with hindsight.

No.

Antonio was a decent find, who did well in L1 & who may have been in contention for a 1st team place had we not gone up last season.

Whilst I agree he was never really given a run of games, I don't think he was better than the competition in front of him & when he did play he never really stood out bar the odd 10 mins here and there.

He has good strength, decent pace & a long throw. But I think this is outweighed by a lack a touch & technical ability.

Disagree.
He's decent, but unfortunately for him there were many better options ahead of him;
Kebe, McAnuff, McCleary, HRK, Obita
To be 6th choice and receiving a cash offer from wednesday, there was only ever one outcome. It was a good move for him too. Imagine turning up to training and seeing how good Kebe is, it's going to get you down if that's your position too!
I'm happy for him that he's doing well for wednesday, a club i've always been quite fond of too (mainly through hating united!).

It wasn't Coppell who let him go, it was McDermott.
Henry was given a decent number of chances, but always seeemd to lack ball control or composure at the vital moment. I wasn't sad to see him go - but as with many former players I always keep a look out to see how he is doing.

best thing I remember about Antonio is when he always used to wait for the ball to trickle to him and thus got robbed every time

Pleased he's done okay elsewhere. No improvement on Kebe, McAnuff, HRK or McCleary though.

We won the Championship with what we had after letting him go.
