Young left back to train with RFC

by TBM » 07 Apr 2013 14:12

Newcastle Jets player Craig Goodwin has been invited to spend two weeks training with English Premier League Club Reading FC.

Goodwin will head to England to link up with The Royals on Monday, before returning to Australia on April 20.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in the A-League in 2012/13, making 25 appearances for the Jets and starting 21 matches.

Capable of playing as a left-back as well as in the left-wing position, Goodwin netted three goals and provided three assists in his first season in Newcastle colours.

someone beat you to it tbm - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=118434

sounds like a typical reading signing. worth a look, and he sounds like his attitude is good too which is what we'll need next season when they'll be a lot of players needing motivating.

We didn't have a great one, he was Chelsea's. Mills? He's been a disaster at Burnley. Saints/Adkins have already sold him once...

Never said Mills was any good. Just said he was young!

I was at this lads professional debut back in Feb last year, were he was mom
Had a good first half of the season this year for the jets but faded out in second half of the year, probably because it was his first ever full season and the australian media attention on any decent young footballer is intense, there all likened to the next Harry kewell.
Better at LB than LW, great pace and an alright shot

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H06UiLVO33U. Not bad shot

Having spoken to an Aussie that knows a lot about Goodwin, I can see why Nigel Adkins wants to take a look at him. He's an attacking full-back. His only flaw is he can be a little rash with his tackling, but that can be coached out of someone. You could see on Saturday how much the full-backs got forward. They were more effective that our own wingers, so this lad is just the sort of player NA will want. Hope it goes well.

I can see him going the way of Gunter and Mills, getting slaughtered by fans despite not being dreadful.

Gunter has been no worse than Kelly. Adkins will favour Gunter next season at right-back too. He likes his left/right backs to bomb forward, and that suits Gunter. He'll ge decent next season. And he's cute.

Trial extended by 10 days to the 30th to allow him to participate in a game.

Sounds promising.

He's the nephew of someone I used to work with, supposedly a good lad. Been brought over especially for the trial so the scouts must see something in him.

I should know more about him, but I do not. Living in Canada and all that jazz.
