Scutterbucketz Shame, really. After 24 years they were finally, and rightly, given the moral high ground. It's just unfortunate that they are too classless to take it.

If Robert Maxwell was still alive and had died this week, how do you think Reading fans would be reacting at a match?

Errr.....I doubt there would have been any reference to it whatsoever.

Mccarthy-10 Future england keeper
Gunter-6 Gave the ball away a couple of times and made some errors
Mariappa-7
Morrison-8 made some key tackles and was solid
kelly-7
Mcanuff-7 decent performance but could of passed the ball a bit quicker at times
Karacan-7
Mccleary-7
Guthrie-9 one of the best games I have seen Guthrie play in a Reading shirt, bossed the middle of the park well
Hunt-8 I keep changing my mind on how good Hunt is! was solid today.
Pog-7

subs:
carrico-8 showed us what he is made of today, great passing and tackling and will be a real good asset next season.
blackman-5 still not convinced he will cut it in the prem, might be usefull next season in the championship but rather see us play Samuel next year.
alfie-6 didn't really get into the game.

Yes, I doubt it would even be mentioned. I'm too young to even remember that (not that I think it's a valid comparison) but that didn't seem to stop anyone under 35 in the Liverpool end.

On the 24th anniversary of Hillsborough it’s good to see Liverpool fans have spectator safety as a priority and treat death with the respect it deserves… oh, hang on…

MmmMonsterMunch Not even talking about that. They were setting off fireworks & flares. You lot don't help yourselves.

In fact I've never seen Liverpool come to Reading & not have any fans kicking off. You are without question the most badly behaved away fans I've seen. Even Cardiff have cleaned up their act these days.

In terms of trying to make trouble with the home fans they were extremely well behaved. Unlike a lot of big teams who've come to the Madejski this year, they had little interest in trying to wind up little old Reading and, really, why would they?

However, The bangers and Thatcher songs were an absolute disgrace! It's obvious they just like making a nuisance of themselves, with themselves. The bangers were just a select few of arseholes, but I would say 90% of them sung the Thatcher song with glee.

Shame, really. After 24 years they were finally, and rightly, given the moral high ground. It's just unfortunate that they are too classless to take it.

The, 'You picked on the wrong city' banner or something similar, sums it up for me. A city that wishes to dwell on being victims, but not accept that they are not exactly angels. The relatives that showed absolute tenacity in their belief (albeit I accept with the aid of most decent Liverpool fans), I have the greatest respect for - but the classless morons at today's game can 'go to hell' as far as I am concerned, I don't know whether it was 90 percent, it was certainly a signifciant number.

Reading fans, as far as I could tell, paid their respects to the innocent. The Liverpool fans had a go at SJM for bringing politics into football and then proved to be a bunch of hypocrites by displaying banners and singing songs that were political at best and wholly tasteless.

It depends if the toilets have been ripped out. Not bothered about the flare or the bangers. Just lol at the ineffective stewarding when the bangers did go off. Liverpool were tidy at times and woefully ineffective at others. Sounds familiar.

To be fair, a section of Liverpool fans applauded Alex McCarthy.

As indeed did Suarez, Gerrard and Sturridge immediately after that save.

Better than recent performances. Only AM saved us from a thrashing. Remember this was against a side that were outclassed by Southampton could not beat West Ham at home, and lost to Oldham in the cup. So don't get to excited this must be one of the worst teams in Liverpool's history.

I think many are just relieved that we attempted to stay in the match, showed some balls for a fight and started to spread the ball with some form of composure. It is there somewhere. It could be a false dawn but could prove interesting for next season.

Everyone recognises that there is still an awfully long way to go, but I think what has everyone excited is that it was the first sign of 'progress' or 'evolution' that we've seen in a Reading side for a very long time. Signs that after this uncomfortable opening period we might come out the other end with a side capable of passing and moving, as well as playing the fast counter-attacking football we're known for.

Adkins has only had 3 weeks with this lot, and already he's having an impact, but there were moments today where it's clear there is still much to do. The most striking of which was when McCarthy had the ball and nobody in the defense was offering him an option which prompted Adkins to go radio rental at Morrison.

McCarthy - 10 - No explanation needed, even the Liverpool fans were applauding him.
Gunter - 7 - Confidence growing, one misplaced pass in a game full of great overlapping and defending
Morrison - 6 - Not sure he's Prem quality, very slow to turn but a decent performance
Mariappa - 7 - Good game for Mapps
Kelly - 7 - Much improved from last week
McCleary - 7 - Struggled against Enrique but showed some reasonable skill. Would like to see him take on his man a bit more.
Karacan - 6 - Fairly anonymous but tried hard and made a few good tackles
Guthrie - 7.5 - Prem class. Superb passing.
McAnuff - 8 - Delighted to see him back at his best, well done Jobi.
Hunt - 7 - Incredible work rate and won a lot of difficult balls. Fine if we offer him a new contract.
Pog - 6 - Looked better as a midfielder than a striker today, showed some composure with the ball at his feet.

Carrico - 8 - Great performance - cultured & skillful. Him & Guthrie is a very decent partnership.
Blackman - 7 - Wasn't convinced in previous performances but liked the cut of his job today - very strong.
Alf - 6 - Anonymous.

Agreed, but I'm sure he'd much rather the players to be able to position themselves. The problem at the moment is that even the mere concept of 'pass and move' is completely alien to our squad, and as such they are constantly out of position/not making the correct runs at the right time. I'm not going to slag off Brian, both parties have moved on now, but we are trying to play considerably more sophisticated football now and I'm a little concerned that some of the players aren't mentally sharp enough to play this way. That's why we need to be patient. Tbf though I thought the fans were excellent today, didn't get on the players back when the odd pass went astray and made a decent amount of noise in the 2nd half. I think the majority understand what's going on, and are feeling positive about the changes Adkins is trying to make.

Looking forward to next Saturday now.

2 world wars, 1 world cup McAnuff 8 excellent excellent performance all over the place. One of the only players who looked like doing anything for us.

I really fail to see why a lot of people are rating McAnuff so highly? I thought he was very average today bar a couple of runs.
His decision making was poor, he missed placed many passes and failed to capitalise on a few chances

Agreed, he got himself at a terrible position and wrapped his leg around Carragher (?), was completely daft.

Mccarthy-10 Absolutely incredible, fully deserved the plaudits from everywhere
Gunter-7 Couple of mistakes, like always, but generally solid + a goaline clearance
Mariappa-7 Definitely has the temperament and ability and hope to have him for the future, looks great
Morrison-7 Thought he looked shaky on the ball on occasion but sured up into the second half
kelly-7 Some good runs to back up McAnuff and looked mostly solid on the left, although maybe should have stopped Downing from getting in a few crosses when he came on
Mcanuff-8 Thought he played really well for a change, although still occasionally took too long on the ball
Karacan-7 Solid
Mccleary-8 Made some great runs and definitely looked a handful
Guthrie-9 Definitely his best game for us, hoping that we can maybe hold onto him when we go down but I'm doubtful
Hunt-8 You get a huge work ethic with Hunty and works for him a lot, great effort today and good return
Pog-7 That's how Pog should play every week, and how we should play to him! Managed to get it into his feet and he actually managed to hold it up a bit, think if he'd got a good run in the team he'd look great.

subs:
carrico-8 That's what we needed in January, stellar performance
blackman-5 Unfortunately he didn't really do well when he came on, if this change was HRK rather than Blackman I could've definitely seen us grabbing a goal, felt he killed the flow a little by looking to hold onto the ball too much
alfie-N/A Had no real time
