Royal Rother
Who Moved The Goalposts?
Royal Rother Disgusting the way McCarthy put himself in the Premier League shop window in his post-match interview wasn't it?

He might just as well have said "come and get me".

Didn't see it - what did he say? (I may be due a whoosh here, of course)

Oh, he said something like "everyone wants to play in the Premier League". Including that phrase in his answer was completely out of context with the question he was asked.

It must be disgusting, right? - loads of people said it was when Federici did something similar (if somewhat more blatant) a couple of years ago.

Federici was a bit more forward in asking to leave the club.

McCarthy deserves to play in the Premier League, he's a top keeper.

Federici deserves to be on the bench.

Indeed he was (more forward), but nonetheless what McCarthy said could have been construed as a "come and get me" plea, and would certainly have been done so by some if Federici had uttered those self same words.

Having said that I must also say that McCarthy's breathtaking performance on Saturday gave me goosebumps.

I think it is very unlikely that we can keep both of Fed and McCarthy happy if we go down. Both will demand to be first choice. Sadly it will all come down to finance in the end. I hope we sell Fed but the question is will there be buyers for him?

If not the only consolation is that I would expect a huge fee for McCarthy from someone like Chelsea (who see his potential to be first choice) - possibly as high as 8M. We won't need to sell so why take less than that?

LOL. Yes, Federici has done very well for the club overall , and we are grateful for his services. Its just that many of us know McCarthy has the potential to be a far better keeper (he already is). I knew McCarthy was a better keeper from when I first saw him play (during our winning run of 2010/11 season) Dont get me wrong, on his day Federici is an excellent keeper, but he is a liability and too often you get the feeling he is a mistake waiting to happen. You dont get that feeling with McCarthy. Lets not forget how costly some of Feds mistakes have been this season, and his ungrateful reaction to being dropped, his ungratefulness in general for the club that turned him from nothing into somebody. McCarthy more than deserved his chance earlier in the season, and he more than deserves it now. McCarthy wouldnt look out of place in England's starting 11 right now, let alone in the future. The only shame is that he will almost certainly be snapped up in the summer.

RoyallyFcuked McCarthy will start the next game and will probably then play the remaining games this season. Adkins has given Taylor a chance, now Federici, then McCarthy. He probably already knows McCarthy is our best keeper and if he had played McCarthy today he would have had to drop him for Feds then drop Feds for him.

McCarthy > Federici

Oh, and I just thought I would remind you all that I was right.^ 8) It was obvious, especially after Feds mistake v Southampton

If sandman hasn't used it as a criticism of McCarthy then no one would. So I refute that logic.

The logic that someone would have used that comment as a criticism of Federici if he'd said the same thing under the same circumstances.

Sandman is as anti-McCarthy (ironically) as any one is anti-Federici.

Royal Rother he said something like "everyone wants to play in the Premier League"

Could he have been referring to the game he'd just starred in as opposed to a come and get me plea ?

Considering they were talking about his time out with injury and whether it was good to be back, I think it's more likely a reference to that game rather than anything else.

Out of interest, why does preferring one keeper mean you have to want the other to die of AIDS? I don't really understand you bumpoles.

McCarthy - Called up by England, plaudits across the country. Most on here see sense.

Federici - Dropped, sitting on the bench, most of us realised he wasn't good enough ages ago.

/end of thread.

A long time ago on this thread I said I didn't understand the hype over McCarthy and I'd rather have Federici.

How wrong was I? :|
