Pepe the Horseman
melonhead carrico>>>>>>>10peles

Can't disagree with that tbf. If he plays every minute of the rest of our fixtures, we'll stay up. No question.

I guess your theory is unlikely to be tested

He's got a contract until 2015, can't imagine he'll go for cheap after we fixed his injury for them

2.5 year deal with a third year option. I don't think he'll go this summer. More likely he needs a full season to get fit, prove himself and then the queues will form. Could be a good option for captain next season!

I hope we do keep him, he'll be the lynch pin of everything we do next year if he isn't a crock.

Well he was Sporting Lisbon's captain wasn't he? So I'm not sure why that's such a crazy idea if Adkins wanted to make a change from Jobi.

Not as crazy an idea as it seems, but he's only played 2 halves of football for us so lets not jump to any conclusions about how good he is.

Hopefully he'll be an important player for us next season.

I'm not sure if you have listened to any of his interviews but he can barely speak English. His last performance was good however he is yet to play a whole game for us so I am not sure if he will be captain for us.

I am not saying that he wont be an important player for us next season but there are 4/5 players that I would have as captain over him. I do not know the ins and outs of his career at sporting but I am sure that he would have been captain due to the fact he was a product of their academy so naturally he knew the club like the back of his hand. He has only been at our club for a few months and I am not sure that he has done anything as of yet to warrant becoming the club captain.

Jobi should definitely stay as captain for the time being, after that there are loads of candidates. Ledge would be a good choice but won't play enough, Mariappa if he doesn't get bought, Kelly could be in with a shout, likewise Shorey if he impresses. Some people want Karacan too. And if Carrio gets through a whole season then why not him?

I see no reason to change personally. But dealing with your suggestions in order.

Leigertwood - a player of the past not for the future, even if I think he has a role to play next season.
Mariappa - good choice
Kelly - not sure on his captain pedigree and there's a lot of competition for his place currently, ok.
Shorey - unlikely to be here.
Karacan - a player we should be looking to move on if we want to play better football, never struck me as very bright either. I think he'd be an awful captain.

Personally I'd say Carrico (He'll be speaking good English by next season) & Mariappa are the only candidates currently here who wouldn't be in the way of us progressing and are likely to be here for a couple of years (providing we and they are reasonably successful). I'd add Pearce, but he looks gone. Same with Gorkss.

Morrison needs to focus on his own game for now. Guthrie's been too much trouble. Tabb's unlikely to be here. Harte's unlikely to be here. Cummings isn't going to be a regular. Not convinced by Gunter. Pog, ALF, Hunt, Blackman? same for Kebe, McCleary & HRK.

Anyway, rather off track.

From Adkins

"You can see he can control and pass the football. I've seen video clips of what was put together when he was signed and he's a player that's got something about him."

He clearly likes him but again confirmed he is still a long way from being fit enough to play 90 minutes. Hopefully a few more sub appearances and then a good summer under his belt.

We signed a player with a long term knee injury, sounds like we bought him cos he was cheaper than he should be and bet on being able to rehabilitate quicker than we have done. Woops.

So we'll be paying this guy a wage plus all his medical bills for 2 and a half years, to watch TV and eat wotsits.

LOL @ some of you, it was a punt on a player with a fantastic background. Also its only been 4 months, I'm sure by next season he will be up and running taking team apart.

Some of you who are laughing at how we have signed an injured player and what a waste of money its been were also moaning about our lack of ambition when we pulled out of signing Bradley Wright-Phillips for the same reason. Or have you all conveniently forgotten?

Nah, I didn't bemoan that at all. Completely understandable decision.

I'm only half taking the piss, I can see he's going to be completely aces for us next season. If he stays fit and doesn't have a relegation clause in his contract.

Valid points, but I think the issue is more that we were right in the mix to avoid relegation around January, and rather than spend money on players who would make an immediate and positive impact we bought in a standard RB, a guy who wasn't going to be fit for 3 months, and 2 lower league punts.

Don't get me wrong I think Akpan, Carrico and (to a lesser extent) Blackman will all prove to be good buys eventually...but I get the feeling McD was a little bruised by the whole Guthrie affair and only wanted to really go after big money players who he knew and trusted.

So I don't think anyone is particularly irritated with the decision to bring Carrico in, more about the characterisation by McD of the transfer being one of 4 that made us the second most active club in the window...which is a slightly misleading stat.

A fair point, I do agree with you that we should have signed some players to go straight into the team and try to stay up and that Akpan and Carrico (not convinced by Blackman) will turn out to be a couple of strokes of genius.
