Alexander Litvinenko They just want to put the past completely behind them and start with their club now - being penalised for what happened in the past when owned by others doesn't really help anyone.

Really?

For fans of every other club it would be seen as natural justice.

But happily claiming the position in the league that the old club had and not starting from the bottom of the pyramid.

People might want revenge - but that's all any points deduction will be, and what will it actually achieve?

Then why bother punishing any club for any wrongdoings?

See the post above.

This is like buying a car and finding out that because the previous owner was speeding in it you get to take the 3 points because you now own it.

No, this is like buying a car that you knew before you bought it that it had four punctures and complaining that you have to buy new tyres.

Oh come on AL.

It's more like knowingly purchasing a bent car and whining when the owner takes it back.

That's a better way of putting it.

Ok, I'll come up with a better metaphor.

It's like buying a dog that you love to rescue it from a previous owner has mistreated - and then being made to pay the fine for animal cruelty.

No it's like buying a dog knowing that it has four broken legs and then moaning about the vets bills.

We could go on all day like this.

Football fans natural sense of justice should be done and be seen to be done.

No more analogies.

buzzby This is the kind of sh1t my Pompey supporting friends put on facebook

5 years ago we played Cardiff in the FA cup. Today they get promoted to the premier league and we're relegated to league 2. Still, won more trophies then them since. And Arsenal. And Everton, and Reading, and Southampton

Does that even make sense?

Since the FA Cup buy, they have won 0 trophies?
Cardiff have won the Champo (in all likelihood), so they're on 1, and we won the Champo so we've won 1.
Arsenal, Everton and Southampton are all on 0 as well so 0 is not greater than 0 as the Pompey fan is suggesting?

Try telling that to a Luton fan as they got stiffed for 30 points because of the previous regime.

The Football Club, not the previous owner, manager, or playing staff; have been given a pending points deduction. That is as a punishment. It wont be a punishment if they award it to the club this season, as they're already relegated, so yes it should carry over to next season!

Maybe the fans consortium can ask all their fans to donate their sovereign rings to be melted down to pay for some fancy solicitors?

It will also achieve some justice to those other clubs who suffered from the effects of their financial doping. And remember they are still benefiting from parachute payments as a result of that and so have an advantage over other clubs they are competing with.

I'm not sure about that PE. Well, I say I'm not sure, over on the Team Board, there is a thread about the parachute payments which I think says if you're relegated out of the Championship you lose parachute payments.

Here's the quote, although I can't see anything to back it up so may not be true.

Clyde1998
Reading West Hi All

I suppose this could've been placed in General football but unfortunately this will be relevant to Reading in the very near future. The relegated teams this season will receive £48 m over 4 years so I presume this will be 12 m per year(is it linear like that ??). Well suppose Reading gets promoted at the end of next season back to the premiership, if the parachute payment is over 4 years, is there some ruling to say that it would stopped being paid if a relegated team is promoted back within 4 years ??? or would the team promoted back to the premier league receive BOTH the ongoing parachute payments PLUS the usual payments for being a premier league team again.

Thanks in advance for clearing this up for me :|

Accoring to the BBC - it's now been upped to £60m over four seasons (£16m for the first two seasons; £8m for the next two). link

If a team gets promoted back to the Premier League during the parachute payment period, then the payments stop.

I believe, also, that if a team gets relegated to League One during the period it stops as well.

The proposed amounts are £24m, £18m, £9m, £9m.
