jimstaaa I don't get how the Arsenal game was an embarrassment! It was 4-4 after 90 minutes, and we were playing Arsenal at the end of the day.

Your forgetting an England international forward scored a hat trick and also goals by fellow international players.

It was a great game to watch, in particular the 1st half

It was definitely great to watch, but how bad can it get to give away a 4-0 lead? We were 4-2 up as we approached the 90th minute, and then as we approached the 120th, we were at 5-5 and looking at Penalties. Cocked both of those up and you could see the spirit drain out of the players.

Yeah the first half was great but it was pretty spectacular to squander a 4-0 lead, especially when you consider we conceded in about the 95th minute! It was very tough watching that. At least in many games it's just been dismal for he whole of it! It's a lot more emotive watching the momentum shift like that.

Yeah, at least we still scored 5 goals

The 5-7 game was embarrassing but at the end of the day it was a relatively meaningless coca cola cup match. Recent history shows that it doesn't help relegation battling teams to be in cup competitions.

The Wigan result was the one when afterwards we all knew that we would go down.

However I would say that the Saints home game was my worst one of the season. First home game without McDermott and the one where any hope of a revival was killed off. Yes, technically we could stay up but after that game it was purely a mathematical chance. The team was hopeless and the crowd was embarrassing (surely our lowest actual attendance for a 'sell-out'?)?

Difficult to say. There have been so many (Says it all really)

But, I too, would have to go for Southampton away for the reasons posted previously. Trully abysmal performance.

Yep, Wigan at home for me. A soul destroying spectacle and they bloodied our noses exposing the complete lack of class players. This has happened at other games as well to a certain extent but I can't remember such a horrible beating by another team likely to be relegated. A truly dreadful experience as we limped home with our tails between our legs.

Wigan at home, because a winning team that had us 'out' of the relegation zone was changed for no reason. Everyone knew if we lost that game we would completely capitulate.

Southampton away was the low point - we wouldn't have scored if Soton had played their U13's.

Caught the away supporters P&R to the match (as I had 6 months beforehand) and never felt 2 more conflicting emotions as on those 2 bus rides back to the car park, from sheer euphoria in April to abject dispair in December!

Soton home (2nd half) runs it close - gutless

Southampton away for me. Still early enough in the season to still think that we might be able to pick up some form and stay up, Saints showed us exactly how far they'd progressed and how we'd somehow managed to go backwards. It was soul-destroying to see how well they'd taken to the Premiership and just how shite our style was and how obvious it would be that we'd get relegated playing the way we did. The most surprising thing in the end was that it only finished 1-0.

After that, the other league games in this list - Sunderland away, Wigan home, Villa home etc all seemed to have an air of inevitability about them. You knew by then that we could easily be played off the park by anyone, and it was just inevitable when all those teams effortlessly walked through our defense to score. Sure, in all those games I was frustrated and embarrassed, but the Southampton game was the one I felt truly angry about.

The Arsenal game was just a freak. And at least the first half was brilliant to watch - in all the other games mentioned we barely had anything to cheer about.

Surprised Villa 1-0 Reading isn't winning. Possibly the worst advert for Premier League football I've ever witnessed.

That was primarily because both teams were as bad as each other.

But for Reading performances Wigan and Sunderland were both abject.

God I remember that! Freezing day and crap football, quite sad there's only 2 players from that team here now and they both are not first choice :(

And to think we had more points by that time of the season then than we do now.

The Villa game was an absolutely awful game of football (worse than Watford game above) - nothing of any note, no ability to control the ball or to make a simple pass, let alone create any goal chances, by either team.

But I cant decide between Reading's performances - v Villa or v Southampton? Tricky and not much to choose from - its quite difficult this thread isnt it?

Wigan and Villa consecutively at home have to be the worst pairing of consecutive games I've ever experienced as a Reading fan.
Two must win games and over the two we were pretty much destroyed. Was the final nail in the coffin of a terrible season as well as a popular/successful manager.
