Hampshire Royal If that happens, we'll miss all the tears on TV.

Will that happen this year though? - i mean who genuinely still feels we will stay up

Tears of relief that we can consign this dreadful season, both on and off the pitch, to history and move on.

We can't even be relegated on Saturday, if Villa don't do it tonight.

If Villa lose v Man Utd, we will be relegated if:
  • We lose to QPR
If Villa draw v Man Utd, we will be relegated if:
  • We draw with QPR (also relegates QPR)
  • We lose to QPR
If Villa win v Man Utd, we will be relegated if:
  • err.. well... Villa win v Man Utd

Now 2 ways we can go down on Sunday:

1. If we lose we're definitely down

2. If Wigan win on Saturday and we draw on Sunday then both us and QPR will be down.

I'm really not looking forward to Sunday! I know we're going down but it wouldn't be nice doing it at home and in front of the Sky cameras. I'd rather we at least left it to Villa winning next Monday so we don't have to be there!

I think its worked out quite nicely. Sunday will be hilarious!

We have a sort of on-off rivalry with our local fake hoops. Other than who wore what first, its not a malicious disagreement, a sort of banter for the sake of it. When we won 106 points against them, they almost cheered us on, and when they visited us as Champions-elect, I think we had a certain respect for it.

So what could be more appropriate for a loser loses all playoff, which both sides know will be ulitmately fruitless? It would be hard to get up for such a game if it was Wigan or Norwich, but against QPR, I think it will be quite fun trying to relegate each other with nothing at all at stake!

As SLAMMED said to me at the weekend....

It would be funny if Wigan win Saturday and then on Sunday we are 1-0 down going into injury time and then we equalise sending both us and QPR down

I don't think Wigan can relegate us, as we can still get to 36 points and they will reach 34 if they win.

If Wigan win then if we don't then we can only get 33/34pts

OK - I've worked it out. We get 34 points if we draw and Wigan will be on 34 points if they win. We'd need an eight goal-differential swing to stay up, though.

If Wigan win on Saturday then they and Aston Villa will both have 34 points.

If Reading and QPR draw on Sunday then we'd both have 25 points with 3 games remaining so the maximum we could reach would be 34 points

However, Wigan and Aston Villa play each other on the final day. This means that regardless of any other results at least one of them would end up with more than 34 points. (one team getting to 37 points, or both getting to 35 - even if they lost their games for the 3 weeks in between that.)

Hence if Wigan win on Saturday then it's guaranteed at least one team will be relegated on Sunday. If Wigan win and we draw against QPR it's impossible for either us or QPR to overtake both Wigan and Aston Villa.

I hope Villa and Wigan both have the same points going into the last day - what a cracking game that'll be

I don't normally give up hope until relegation is a mathematical certainty but even I've thrown in the towel now.

Looking forward to next season, mind. We've had a good innings.

We have been relegated on my 21st birthday, so I guess it is a relegation party in some way.
