Beckham Retires

I know he's got his haters on here but for me he was one of the most gifted players England had in my lifetime and he never gave less than his all. Plus his influence was key in the bid for London 2012. Adios Dave

On the day Lampards signs a one year contract extension - it's no wonder Beckham has retired. Can't compete with the better older players these days. No impact.

I congratul8 him on a wonderful career, and hope that he is now able to devote more time to his extra-marital affairs.

Do you think Lampard or Beckham has had a better career? Obviously Lampard is a better player today but Beckham is 38.

I am privileged to have seen him play several times. He is one of the best footballers I have ever watched, great engine, great skill, great athleticism and just a great ambassador to the sport. Very professional, very down to earth and so humble.

My fondest memory of him is watching England play Finland up at Anfield. Beckham was playing for United at the time and he was captain of England that day. He brought on a local handicapped lad as mascot and the entire Kop stand stood up and sang 'theres only one David Beckham' and applauding him. What a great tribute to him.

He has done so much for charity and for children and I have nothing but the utmost respect for David. I wish him well, I wish him the best and thank you for so many great memories!

Best English player of my lifetime and probably the second-best European. Football was so much better when he was playing. God knows how we never won anything: we were 100 times better than the piss-poor squad that was announced today.

Also he was football=sex personified: people would lick his toilets. There was a spell where I couldn't go into our college's computer room without seeing one of our Korean or Chinese students looking doe-eyed at his pictures.

Him and Posh Spice are our royalty.

World Class player and a decent bloke with his feet on the ground. Unquestionably the only British player to have transcended football into true celebrity in the past 25 years.

Also like the fact that, despite his celebrity, he has tried to give his kids as normal an upbringing as possible in the circumstances and hasn't pimped them round the celebrity circuit.

Certainly not the type to be seen abusing Americans arriving at Heathrow the day after 9:11.

Massive fan of Becks and wish him well in his luctrative retirement.

I see Chris Waddle has just come out and said Beckham wasn't in the top 1000 players in Premier League history. Bitch please.
