PistolPete Alexander Litvinenko PistolPete This thread is about McCarthy in the England squad, not about Federici.
However, I have NO IDEA how anyone can say Federici is arrogant. He left Australia and slept on teammates floors and earnt a month-to-month contract at this club, ....
You have to be arrogant to have succeeded at that, and as a professional footballer. Anyone meek and humble, and without the right levels of self-confidence and self-belief, just wouldn't have the determination to put themselves through that.
I disagree, that makes him determined. If he was arrogant he would have felt he deserved a contract and a longer term one at that. Arrogant people are usually lazy with a sense of right. Having confidence in ones-self is indeed important, but its critically different.
Not necessarily - you're talking about "greedy" and/or "lazy" there, and I'm not sure anyone's accused him of being that.
"Arrogance" is actually defined as "
Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance" which is consistent with excessive self-belief. And if you need a high level of self-belief to succeed against the odds in such circumstances it doesn't take much to push that over the edge into "arrogance."
But it's nothing to be particularity offended or surprised about - the vast, vast majority of professional footballers I've met could legitimately be described as arrogant. They often need to be to get there in the first place, and the combination of success, money and being in the public eye often helps reinforce this.
