Either way - documentaries on Hillsborough always fascinate me and get the mind boggling as to what the world we live in today would be like had things panned out differently that day.

If the disaster hadn't happened that day, it is highly likely that it would've or would happen later.

Like Bradford did, disasters focus the mind and the clubs and authorities duty of care.

I was staunchly in the "believers and authorities" corner in the aftermath of Hillsboro', but even I can see that I was had, and that I was wrong..... a shame one or two others tirelessly maintain their own ongoing "agendas".

Worse possibly still, since the police apology/admission of guilt, some of the affected have raised legal (compensation based) proceedings, only to be told that their claims are not valid because of the "three year rule".........mmmmmm

Exactly Spizz. It was not the fault of the ordinary public that they fell for the lies. But you would have to be a fool (or a Man u/Chelsea fan) to still believe. Although not all Man U fans are this blind. I know a couple who used to argue with me saying scousers were to blame etc. But when the Independent panel released its findings they made a point of knocking on my door and apologising and saying they felt ashamed at the disgusting songs their fans had sung. Good lads they are.

Quite frankly, the FA need to take responsibility for complete and utter negligence in using a stadium which was known to have overcrowding issues. When will the finger be pointed at them?

Liverpool made a point of asking for the bigger end after the 1988 experience and the issues that had gone before.

The FA turned them down on police advice....

In 1988 I was in the stand behind the Leppings Lane terrace so I didn't experience the problems that day. In 1989 I was with my girlfriend of the time and our season tickets, even though they were in the main stand at Anfield only entitled us to tickets on the Leppings Lane terrace. I remember lots of Liverpool fans being very pissed off that for the second year running we were given the smaller end and a lot less tickets than Forest who had an average attendance that was about half of Liverpool. These were complaints that the FA were well aware of before the match as our manager at the time, Kenny Dalglish, described the decision a couple of days before the semi final as "A joke".

Personally I think the officers in charge on the day made mistakes that a 10 year old shouldn't make. However, they did not deliberately make these mistakes but should have come out and admitted it. The individuals that I want to see prosecuted are the officers involved in "The Black Ops" team. These are the ones responsible for changing other officers and Liverpool fans witness statements. Some police officers only found out last year that any criticism of the force was redacted from their statements. I have spoken to a lot of people this last 12 months (Not scousers who always knew including Everton fans) that have told me they believed the lies told by South Yorkshire Police, The Scum 'newspaper' and certain politicians and they they were angry that they were lied to. The arrogance that they thought they could just shift the blame is a national disgrace.

I was only 14 when Heysel happened. To young to be allowed by my parents to go and I didn't have the funds anyway. I do not make definitive comments about it because, unlike Hillsborough I was not there. However, I have always said anybody who causes trouble at a football match deserves any punishment they receive and I believe a number of "fans" at Heysel were jailed for manslaughter. From some of your previous posts on this forum You are proud to have been in attendance when Manchester United fans have misbehaved. What a prick you are !!

I think in the fullness of time the role of West Midlands Police will come out much more into public knowledge than it currently is.

The WMP officers allocated to the investigation were the same officers from the West Midland Serious Crime Squad, disbanded in August 1989 after countless examples of intimidation, "fitting-up," planting of evidence and changing of statements - for instance the cases against the "Birmingham Six" and the and "Carl Bridgewater Four". The officers from it were suspended or transferred to "non-operational" duties, and among them was Detective Superintendent Stan Beechey, who was transferred to apparently "study the technical aspects of Hillsborough".

In reality, he ended up as a key assistant to the Coroner, effectively in charge of the collation and management of evidence and constantly by the coroner's side, advising him. It's clear that WMP had a vast amount to do with the cover-up, but so far they're only rarely mentioned.
