Eventually the full interview should be available in Sir John's podcast archive...

You have to be pretty cynical not to be encouraged by what Anton says about the academy and widening our scouting network.

Fantastic interview! Clearly AZ knows what he's doing and he's not making any deluded statements. VERY BRIGHT FUTURE I THINK!!

You really do talk a lot of crap. Just out of interest, have you listened to the podcast? It's a very positive interview, and you can hear quite clearly how passionate AZ is about the club and football in general. He understands what needs to be done to establish a club in the top flight, but at the same time recognises it is a learning process for him as well. He doesn't claim to know everything, but you can see that his intentions are right for the club. One thing I love is that the first change he made when he came here was that the recruitment system we had in place wasn't good enough. Skip forward 18 months and we scouted over 900 games this season alone, and we are looking around Europe and beyond. We weren't doing that before, so there is a clear improvement that in the long-term will benefit us! He also says in this interview that he gets so involved in the running of the club that he too takes is personally if the club fails; so whilst the fans are disappointed and looking for someone to point fingers at, he knows he is one of those that has to accept blame. That's fantastic to hear! Look around other clubs and you will see many Chairman that just hide in the background when it all goes wrong. Anton is a breath of fresh air! There are a lot of changes that need to be made both on and off the pitch, and an awful lot of money needs to be spent to get us where Anton wants us. That cannot be achieved in 18 months, nor can it be in 36 months. But in the long-run, this football club is heading in the right direction!

Everything has a flip side. It's not in the interest of clubs for owners to be "too involved". I get a sneaking suspicion that Anton takes too much of an interest in team selection and that's not healthy. I'm sure when you've invested a few million you want your say but that's not how it works if you want to be successful in football. Once you help establish an effective framework you have to let your manager get on with it, even if you can't understand why so-and-so has been selected/left out.

I really can't see Adkins putting up with any interference from Anton. He wouldn't have come had he not had 100% control over team affairs. He also needed assurances of how the DoF role would work and that Hammond wouldn't 'interfere'. He got those assurances and he signed.

If Anton tried to influence selection Nigel would walk, it doesn't happen.

He's entitled to an opinion though, it's his club, and if he's going to make big decisions like hiring/firing managers then I'd far rather he had real knowledge and passion for the game. It also means his interest isn't likely to diminish over time, as shown by his commitment to the long-term elements of the club.

So with the target being to win the league let's hope it's at last matched playing wise in terms of ambition. A mixture of Academy protégés with astute purchases and a good experience needs to happen. Some of that is already there of course so lets hope Nigel calls the right shots in be summer.

Meanwhile making sure we're signing the best youngsters around it also essential....

Well let's just see if the 900 European scouting missions doesn't mean we end up signing average players from Motherwell, Crawley Town and Sheff U or a has been Portugese International courtesy of You Tube.

Proof of the pudding.........
