Ian Royal I doubt it, but then I didn't think anyone really expected him to play in either game did they?

Not against Brasil, but he should have been given half a game against Ireland if you ask me.

I am quite happy he didn't get on. The moment he sets foot on that pitch in an England shirt, the more chance that some club will come in and make an offer for him. If he had gotten on the pitch against Brazil, and played well, that would have been the worse possible news for us. If his head hasn't already been turned by getting in the squad, then that would have done it. Please tell me he does nto share Alex Pearce's agent?

Yes, of course. Managers all over the country must be sitting there saying "I think I might buy the Reading keeper, but only if he gets 45 minutes in an England shirt. Can't be sure about how good he is, based on his performance in the league this season, so I will have to see him perform in a meaningless game for England"

How many keepers get a go at the first asking if they're not considered to be the number 1 man? I'm not surprised that he didn't get a go. He's got to get to know the team and blend a bit. Was never going to happen.

If he carries on like that it'll be a while before he gets back in the England squad.

I think it's safe to say that if England squads were picked on the back of one half of a friendly in July, you'd be absolutely spot on there.

A pre-season game where he makes a mistake.... the horror!

Not like Federici, his mistakes contributed to our relegation.

Which is why I said "if he carries on like that" as in for the coming months. Do keep up.

That's a bullshit decision. But from our selfish club perspective that is good news.

Not allowed to be anywhere near the England squad if you're not playing in the PL.

Shows how much being a PL player means. No one (bar McCarthy) has played any meaningful football since the last England matches, but somehow Ruddy is considered better than McCarthy because he's about to start a PL campaign. :x

All this will do is highlight to McCarthy that if he wants to go to the World Cup (should England qualify) he has to play in the PL, which is just what we need...

You've hit the nail right there.

McCarthy has always stated he just wants to play football. Fortunately GK's have longer careers so hopefully he gives us 1 more year, and if we don't get promoted then he can leave!!

The only reason McCarthy was in ahead of Ruddy last time was because Ruddy was injured.

This. If being part of a Premier League club was the only reason for Ruddy's selection then why was McCarthy, a newly-relegated goalkeeper, selected vs. Ireland/Brazil?
