Don't understand why people would think McDermott's any better now than when we sacked him, he's after Noel Hunt ffs? If anything the last 2 and a half months have confirmed we needed a change in manager and next season will demonstrate this in full.

You've all made your minds up that McDermott is the footballing anti christ and Adkins with his supposed style is the greatest manager ever.

Er, no. You've made YOUR mind up that's what everyone thinks.

Most on here like both managers, can see where the old gaffer went wrong and look forward to the new gaffer fixing it.

Exactly this. Nobody is saying Brian can't manage. At Championship level he is a very good manager. But he got found out massively in the Prem, and his techniques are far too limited for the top flight. Adkins however proved he could cope in the Prem, and play a better style of football, therefore we have every right to be excited for the future.

McDermott isn't football anti-christ. Adkins isn't God. McDermott is a good Championship manager, but IMO, Adkins is a good Premier League one

Agreed I do not think any Reading fan would be a BM hater! After what he did. It was just time to move on. New owner has come in and wants to do things his way. A new Reading way is underway. I think if we get things right we have the potential to be a mid table premier league side. Of course we are a good few years away from that. Need to sort out the Academy status, get back to the PL and extend the capacity. I am hopeful. Our style of football whilst getting results a couple of seasons ago was never very pretty. I am not in favour of tippy tappy football either but the right blend with a lean to more passing suits me. We shall see what happens!

Morro on Adkins and a sly dig at the "pub team managing hoofball merchant".

He said: “To stay in the top flight as a centre-half you need to be able to pass the ball and be comfortable on it.

“So under this manager, it gives me a great opportunity to get better at my game by doing that.

“At any level, if you’re playing regular first team games, you’re going to improve the more you play.

“When I was at Huddersfield Town on loan, if I look back to when I first went there to now, the difference is massive. Over the last 12 months I’d probably have to look back in detail at my game and look at games to see what I’ve done and where I’ve improved.

“But even in the last six weeks of the season, since the new manager came in, I think my game has improved massively in different areas, such as concentration and body positions.

“We’re working a lot more on different parts of the game which is going to benefit me and the lads in the long run. So I think everyone’s already really looking forward to coming back for pre-season.”

If people had just accepted McDermott's sacking without throwing a strop then it would not have been necessary to continually go on and on about his failings this season.

The memories of McDermott's successes have been tarnished by this futile thread.

Let it go.
We move on.

Yeah, err, he's okay, err, still, err, hoof, err

Fook off, I've never said he isn't a very effective manager at the level we'll be at next season. Just because I didn't (and still don't) believe he's the right guy to take us forward long term, it doesn't make me a h8er :!:

How? Unless we win the league then we'll have done worse than under Brian

He didn't inherit a Premier League squad.

Indeed, therefore comparison is impossible and irrelevant.

Though he did inherit Shane Long.

The fact will always be that in terms of end of season results, McDermott achieved everything that could realistically expected from him. Had we been relegated under him i'd have taken his sacking as sad but maybe inevitable. Now we'll never know if he could have pulled off one last miracle.

I'm not suggesting anything; but Leeds signing some 6 ft 6 striker from Oldham doesn't exactly promote 'passing' football.

Stupid comparison. The only relevant one is what McDermott would have done with us in the coming season. And he'd be doing it with a team playing badly and low on confidence needing to address that problem. As it is we go down with a new culture of positivity coming from the players, which in of itself is an improvement over what we had with McDermott last season where the entire squad looked beaten.

Maybe McDermott could have done well with us, but there's absolutely no guarantees.

And lets not forget that McDermott beat Adkins to that title by one point when he had one of the best squads in the Championship compared to Adkins top League One squad.

Or how about it doesn't matter whether you finish first or second, you still go up, so we're actually better with the manager who had his team outside the relegation zone and looking at survival in the PL when he was sacked. It's easy this shit comparison lark isn't it.
