Sharp is as good a guess as any. Perhaps that lad Humphreys from Motherwell, who we were supposedly tracking?

Sharp would be underwhelming tbh.

Humphrey has already signed for Preston [Fordham said we were never seriously in for him, trust him over Low any day] - http://www.pnefc.net/news/article/humph ... 53629.aspx

That's put me in my place!

Agree that Sharp would be a bit underwhelming, but I'm already bored with the off season. Any news is better than nothing!

Hoop Blah Why do you think we'd be limited to out of contract players?

And Baird? You mean Chris Baird? Why would we be going for him?

Mainly because this early in the window it will be easier to have tied up out of contract players and those no longer wanted by their clubs...rather than in demand players whose clubs will be playing hardball over.

We were linked with Baird a couple of weeks ago and just seems like a Reading-type signing to me, no other reason.

Disagree with mafff that Sharp would be underwhelming. Excellent striker for Champ level.

shaka's shorts Anton says we will sign 5-7 players and possibly 2 will join this week in today's Post.

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/

“I think there will be five to seven new players coming in, including a couple this week so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

“We’ll do the deals that we know we want to do.

“We have the targets locked up right now and hopefully they will work out. You always have interest from other clubs so we’ll see where we are.”

I just spunked in my own face.

If I see Hunt as the benchmark I just don't think he's any better. and what does he offer Alfie doesn't?

Don't get me wrong, he'd be solid I'm sure. Just a bit of a boring transfer!

Except for Vital Fulham I've seen nothing and that was actually just a rehash of the rumour from January when we signed Kelly. Strongly linked with West Brom though.

He wouldn't get me jizzing at my desk for sure, but think he offers more of a goal theat than Hunt, and has more of an all-round game than Alf.

I think Adkins will be after a target man who can link play. Basically another Lambert. I don't think Sharp will be on his radar knowing we have ALF.

Yes. Only just read that. Had a deja vu moment, and thought of the Magnificent Seven. Then had a stomach turning moment, as I thought of the Magnificent Seven. Not going to get too excited just yet, until we know there are no 'Charlie Flanagans of West Byfleet Town' in the mix.

I don't spend much time monitoring the speculation but I must admit I've never seen us linked with Baird so that comes as a bit of a surprise. I do remember seeing him linked with West Brom in the past and that he's now on a free.

Never seen him play in midfield either, so that's a bit of a surprise too, but I just can't see us signing another player who's main talent is playing at right back. It just wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Not sure I agree that freebies are more likely at the moment. I can see the argument, but, if they're any good they're also going to be in demand by other clubs doing the same as us and so I don't see it being much of a difference. Each to their own though.

Wouldn't get too excited. It will be 7 mediocre signings. Not 7 quality signings.

5-7 signings and nobody has any firm intel on any of them. They've done well to stop any leaks.

I almost preferred it when mafff and Jay spent all summer making shit up.

You'll go a long way to beat Big Foots Akwa rumour a few years back.
