Sounds a lot like this post from Mags:

viewtopic.php?p=3698847#p3698847

Maguire Summary from an Evertonian I went to aforementioned match with:

So first, the football. He is an absolutely brilliant player, he would
genuinely be one of the most talented players in the PL. He's a game
changer and will do some things which will have you shaking your head
in disbelief

He never got on with Moyes because he expects everyone to do their job
in the defensive unit and Drenthe wasn't really that interested in
that.

To get the best out of him you should just play him off a front man or
wide left and not ask anything of him defensively (or at least not
expect anything, he does surprise you every so often by pulling off a
great challenge)

In the negative column in terms of off the field, he is completely
mental. Not just a bit, I mean really bonkers. He comes from a
particularly nasty bit of Rotterdam and is reckoned to have ADD and
as a result really struggles to stay still/at home. Apparently alcohol
isn't so much the problem as he just can't switch off and so tends to
go out every night, he's also obsessively into music (he built a
recording studio in the basement of his rented accomodation within
about a week of signing for us)

The last straw when he left Everton was when, the Friday before we
played the filth in the cup semi, he was caught on CCTV breaking into
our training ground with two birds whom he proceeded to nail in the
gym
(I shit you not)

In short, he's tremendous, I wish he still played/was banned from
playing for us because in the humdrum and mundanity of finishing 6th
(much like playing in the championship, I expect) he will provide
plenty of entertainment, good and bad. There aren't enough total
nutcases in the game these days, IMO

rofl, so much fro signing players who fit the Reading mould

1) Any young guy (only 20 when Madrid paid £10m for him) who gets thrust into the limelight so quickly can go off the rails a bit. He may have matured over the last year.
2) The fact that he's willing to come and play in the Champ, when he will undoubtedly have more financially rewarding offers elsewhere, is a good sign.
3) If, and it's a big if, the recent interviews showing him to be a reformed character are honest then we'll be getting a guy who's value will increase exponentially as this is shown in his behaviour through time.
4) Adkins is a very good man-manager, as shown by his handling of the similarly troublesome Puncheon at Saints, and is as likely to get the best out of him as any.
5) He's outrageously talented, Everton fans think he's a top 4 player when his head is right, so even if he's still a bit mental chances are he'd still be very useful, not to mention fantastically entertaining.

Should get El Hadji-Diouf up front as well, to complete the set.

Just been up to the megaspaccerbowl to renew my season ticket and there was a short black guy with a glint of lunacy in his eye hanging around outside the ticket office. Someone approached him and I overheard his response which sounded like 'my name is Royston Drenthe and I am definitely signing for Reading'. Couldn't be 100% sure as he had an accent, possibly Dutch, but that is what it sounded like.

Make of this what you will

It's pretty cool, he will need to be "managed" though, as opposed to being able to manage himself like most of our players.

Royston Drenthe will play the coming 3 years at the English club Reading FC. "The coming week Royston will be presented. We have reached a deal, but there are a few details that need to be finalised”, say his management, RF sports.

Drenthe comes from the Russian Alania Valdikavkav, where he can leave transfer free. "Royston is happy with his return to England and he is happy that he can play closer to home.”

De old-Feyenoorder played earlier in England at Everton. He also played for Real Madrid. Reading FC was relegated last season from the Premier League.

We should all delay our season ticket renewals every year if this is the kind of panic spending it generates

Just with the current team we could potentially have

McCarthy
Kelly, Morrison, Mariappa, Bridge
Karacan Guthrie
HRK (Jobi <-> Drenthe)
Pog

/

McCarthy
Kelly, Morrison, Mariappa, Bridge
Karacan Guthrie
HRK Drenthe
Pog ALF

With Feds, Gunter, Carriço Akpan, McCleary, Roberts, Jobi/ALF, Blackman

Not bearing in mind those that leave and our 6 new signings . oxf*rd me that looks a strong team for the Championship.

For some reason (no idea why) I can see Pog staying....

This could very well be the greatest group of players to ever play in the Championship.

It won't be often you see a line like this one in the Express

Drenthe failed to make the grade at Real Madrid, but will be given another chance at Reading
