Capital one cup 1st round bye?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. I was just looking through the seedings for the Capital One Cup draw on Monday and noticed neither Reading or Wigan appeared - I presume we've got a bye to the 2nd round? I guess this is because us and Wigan were the two 'best placed' sides from those in the Football League this season, and presumably they need to leave two teams out to have a certain number taking part in the 2nd round. (Or maybe it's something to do with Wigan being in Europe? Indeed I think the 2nd round takes place in a European midweek so presumably Wigan won't be entering even at that stage!)

At least we achieved something last season I guess! It probably can't do any harm to have an early midweek off.

It has been confirmed that the Royals will enter the 2013/14 Capital One Cup at the second round stage.

This means the club will not take part in round one ties, set to take place on 6th/7th August and will instead enter at round two, with those ties to be played on 27/28 August.

The round one draw for the Capital One Cup will be released on Monday 17th June 2013 and will be both seeded based on last season’s league tables, and also regionalised, consisting of 70 Football League clubs. The two highest placed relegated clubs from the Premier League have been seeded though to round 2 (Reading) and round 3 (Wigan Athletic).

Probably because they finished bottom, therefore being the worst placed out of the relegated clubs.

So how does that mean QPR are in R1?

They take the 20 current Premier League teams out (i.e. those in that league next season) and the 'top 2 Champ teams' which is attributed to the 2 highest placed teams the previous season (i.e. 18th and 19th in the Premier League.)

Round 2: 25 matches - 35 Round 1 winners + all other teams not in Europe (Reading + 14 Premier)

Round 3: 16 matches - 25 Round 2 winners + 7 teams in Europe (Wigan + 6 Premier)
